2023 Recruiting Board/Thread

Is it safe to believe that Texas is done with 23 HS recruits other than Jelani McDonald and possibly (long shot) Duce Robinson?

I'm going to assume DeAndre Moore will not be part of this class moving forward.

Time to turn our attention to the transfer portal.  What are the biggest priorities there?  1 each at WR and S stand out to me.  Maybe at DL as well.
WR for sure.  Perhaps two of them.  Safety is #2.  And if a stud pass-rushing edge falls into our laps, why not.

WRS on roster 9 need 2 more 3 if Whitt. does not come back.

OL on roster 16 need 1 prefered a grad transfer.

DB on roster 16 need 1 maybe 2

As of now I count 83 on roster so room for 2

In the end rankings mean less than good evaluations.

Mike Singletery being the perfect example.....
There are numerous examples of how important good evaluations are as well as player development.

But it's also not a coincidence that the best teams take more highly ranked players than other teams do. And do it year after year after year.

We are in a much better position then last year. Instead of having glaring obvious needs the staff has some positions that could use 1 or 2 guys. This should allow them to be more selective with the portal shopping. Less roster churn will hopefully translate to fewer mistakes and penalties.

As far as recievers. The fact that JWhit hasn't announced anything yet gives me hope.  If he comes back the reciever room goes from really good to amazing.

IT said they would be surprised if J Whitt does not come back. Between that and Moore looking more likely to sign, we might be in good shape.  One portal WR and we should be ok.

4.  Interesting take.  Good / Amazing potential for the future; or next year's starting lineup.  I actually thought (play on the field) that WR was not a strength last year what-so-ever.   Part of the problem was the trigger man, but nevertheless.....

Worthy, Neyor, (Whittington).... Cain, Frosh & Freshman.... I guess I agree there is some potential there.  I hope you're right.

The passing game needs some work as Sark noted. It starts with the OL providing a good pocket which they did inconsistently this year. Also requires that WRs run the right routes in a passing attack that anticipates where a receiver should be. I got the impression that didn't always happen this year with the exception of JWhitt. Then, the QB needs to do his job which I'm confident he can do given a good pocket and WRs being in position.

The reason I feel good about the reciever room isn't based on the 2022 results which as you say wasn't all on the recievers. But based on the past performance of guys like Sanders ,Worthy and Neyor and potential in Red,Alexis and Thompson plus the 2023 guys (Cook,Niblet and likely Moore). Also I have faith in coach Marion to translate all of this potential into results.  Plus the QB and Oline should continue to improve which will allow our recievers to shine.
