Directors Cup Thread

Friday will be a big day:

Soccer vs A&M in round of 64

CC teams competing in regionals, looking to finish top 2 to qualify for NCAA championships

Both cross country teams are picked 2nd in their regional at this point - again, fortunate that the "south central" region is pretty weak for cross country. Next Friday is the regional and it'll be a great result if both teams can land 2nd place finishes and qualify for the NCAA championship.
As predicted, both cross country teams finished 2nd today (Arkansas took 1st place). This means they qualify teams (and not just individuals) for the NCAA championship next weekend.

Even if both teams finish in last place (31st) they would score a combined total of 86 points toward the directors cup. Last year they scored 88.5 (27 by the women and 61.5 by the men). Ultimately I'd look for the men's team to land low to mid 20s and the women to be in the high 20s.

Friday will be a big day:

Cross country championships in the morning. Expect both teams to finish ranked in the mid to high 20s.

Soccer takes on Duke at 5:30. Duke is favored but especially in a game like soccer if our offensive superstars in Missimo or Byars sneak a goal or two in, anything can happen.

Correction, cross country championships are Saturday morning.

Soccer plays Duke tonight, 5:30 pm. It's on ACC network plus or ESPN+

Soccer battled till the end against Duke, losing 1-0 on a goal in the 88th minute. They were outshot 20-7 with 5 on goal for Duke and 2 for Texas. They needed one to break their way and didn't get it but overall a great season.

Men's CC finished 18th, which was a bit better than I expected. Slightly worse than last years 14th place finish.

Women's CC finished 31st and really showed that they didn't belong in that field. Top individual finishers was in the 200s. For comparison, every other team had at least 1 runner finish in the top 100 and most much higher than that. If not for the weak region we compete in, we certainly would not have been in the NCAA championship field.

With the new CC coach I am curious to see how quickly and by how much this team can improve. A few big recruits and some transfers could totally transfer a CC team.

Volleyball was seeded #1 overall for the NCAA Tournament.

They dominated their first round opponent today and will take on Georgia tomorrow night to move to the sweet 16.
FDU looked like a HS team compared to Texas. Glad to see them dominate the Bulldogs.

Hey man, what's up with the lady's basketball team? USF is no slouch but to lose at home to them was a surprise. I only saw the highlights but their #3 was lights out!

I watched most of the basketball game. We looked a bit out of sorts and missed a lot of easy buckets.

USF was on fire and was knocking down most of their good opportunities, especially from 3.

Volleyball advances to the round of 8. Really dominated the first 2 sets against Marquette 25-14, 25-13. They dropped the 3rd set but bounced back to close it out in set 4, 25-17. Team looked really strong and when they avoid errors, they are unbeatable.

Saturday the face Ohio State.

Give me a follow on Twitter. I'll bring all the important info here but I am doing more posting on twitter about the nationwide scoring.

I will give you guys the sneak peak of what I'll be posting on twitter after volleyball wraps up.

Texas will jump up to 7th place tonight, regardless of 1st or 2nd place. Texas will be between 52-62 points better than we were last year at this time. Adding at least 25 points in football means we will be at least 77 points ahead of pace from last year and could be as much as 120 points better if we win volleyball and our bowl game.

UNC is off to a hot start but I do think they eventually fade when the spring sports kick in - they just don't have the firepower across the board.

Stanford is also off to a great start. Currently in 2nd place and over 100 points better than last year so far. They won't score in football, but they also didn't score in football last year.
