In high school, our catcher was offered a 15% scholarship to play baseball at a Southland school. The head coach did his in home visit and saw they had a piano in the living room. Coach asked if he knew how to play and the catcher said, "Yes, a little. Don't like it too much. My mom uses it to practice for church choir."Safe to say that Brock earned his from last year. No doubt they will reward that effort and keep him on scholarship.
Also, post above didn't mention academic scholarships. Though its much more prevalent in baseball, you'll see a couple smart guys a year take an academic full ride to free up a schollie elsewhere.
The next day the coach called and said, "your 15% is no longer good. We got you a 100% full ride. Only catch is you have to take one piano class a semester." Catcher was a 'Music major' for one year while he got his basics. Switched to business as a sophomore but kept the scholarship until he graduated. Never played piano again! Lol
