I had someone laugh at my statement that my whiteness never gave me any benefits.  I don’t understand the laughter, unless they can prove that I benefited from being white. I don’t want some bullshit generalization either. If someone says that I benefited from being white then that is a slap in the face to everything I’ve achieved. No matter what color my skin I would have been successful, it comes from my upbringing and determination. I can understand having a difference of opinion, but trying to diminish my achievements because of a perceived “benefit “ is freakin stupid 

I think we all know someone like that. They try to belittle your accomplishments in order to make themselves look better to others or just to themselves. It's an excuse not to acknowledge their own shortcomings.
