Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

TB,s has agreat open for weekend Some infro. on Watson. Looks like he is leaving with out an attempt by coaches to keep him. Go figure that.

Out played again at RB by a short 193 lb. RB. Have seen year after year.

Always Texas will recruit one with speed and some wiggle. Maybe Brooks then coaches will add 40 lbs. Nd speed him up to out run a slow LB.

Does anyone think Tom is still calling majority of plays? Been waiting for the three and four man backfields ala. Okie St. but so far no show.

I prefer Urban Meyer if were going to hire a scumbag.
People may be on the fence when it comes to Meyer, but a couple things come to mind in regards to him:

1. If he is the next HC, I would bet Ash and probably Yurcich would be retained.  UM has gone on record as saying Ash is basically his guy and he thinks he will be a hell of a DC at Texas.  Yurcich, likely would remain because he runs the style of offense Meyer prefers.

2. There would be no grace period for the players buying into his culture.  He would walk in with immediate command of respect.

3. No need to sell recruits on his way.  Kids would want to play for him.

Just my thoughts.  Not saying he would be the right choice and I don't make those decisions, but who else would have that kind of immediate impact not named Saban or Swinney?

Nailed it. And we would win right off the bat.

Not a fan of Urban but if he is the choice, I really hope he will be able to groom a suitable replacement (not a HCIW) but someone who takes the reigns and continues the success once his customary health issue kicks in.

BTW, if UM is the coach next season, the decision is made before the 1st signing day, the coordinators do stay and he brings in a competent OL coach, I wonder if the Brocks flip. Whether they do or not, I'd give him better than even odds of winning the  RRR and Big 12 next season.

As much as I am not a fan of Urban as a person, he is an outstanding coach. The added benefit to hiring him would be the total meltdown by everyone from Norman to Aggieland. Perhaps the only thing that would be more irritating to the masses as a return of Texas to elite would be a return of the Cowboys to the top of the summit. I'm really starting to warm to the idea if for no other reason than to see all my sooner friends squirm.lol

Point 4.  UM recruited Texas better than anyone. He pulled more 5 star recruits out of the state. I believe UM would have an immediate impact on the recruiting trail with the high school coaches and the recruits. If done early enough he could possible even flip some current recruits heading out of state.
just my 2 cents

Other names I've seen thrown around are Campbell and Fleck. My questions for those more knowledgeable than I is, have either of those demonstrated that they could recruit Texas or that they have what it takes to lead a program of this size and complexities? Both have certainly had success where they are but that is not necessarily a precursor for success at UT.
