SignUp Now!These are the guys that are already on campus. How many are high risk to go pro?
Exactly. They’re already enrolled and practicing. These are the guys that are already on campus.
So obviously last years scholarship doesn’t guarantee a spot this year based on your post. Sucks for some of these kids. Sounds like the oversigning that sec football does, but I guess is standard issue with college baseball.Exactly. They’re already enrolled and practicing.
What will be interesting is where the ten cuts will come from. Staff has to narrow the roster to 35 for Spring. There will be some difficult decisions.
Generally speaking, as a player gets older, the amount of the scholarship declines. So obviously last years scholarship doesn’t guarantee a spot this year based on your post. So how many “walk-on” or non-scholarship players can they roster? How many players total on the roster?Generally speaking, as a player gets older, the amount of the scholarship declines.
The NCAA rule for D1 is that there are 11.7 scholarships for baseball. The minimum you can offer is 25%. Again, this is only athletic money. If the student qualifies for academic monies or grants, that is totally separate.
So the staff has to juggle this 11.7 number every year. Usually they need some of it to attract top freshmen. So that has to come from somewhere. Whether it’s from players that let left for the draft or from current roster players it comes from the “pool.”
35 is the official number once spring semester kicks inSo how many “walk-on” or non-scholarship players can they roster? How many players total on the roster?
The Dos XX world’s most interesting man will be staffing the beer kiosk on game days.B) Joeywa
Looks like some indoor training facilities. Can you run it down. All that is going to be added. Anything to the stadium itself such as more seating or concessions etc.
Dos XX vendors? B)
Not sure about the Dos XX vendors, but the training facility will be state of the art. It will have many of the same things that MLB training facilities have from a technology standpoint. There will be a pitching lab that will incorporate analytical technology to help the pitchers and coaching staff in development. Wordnis there are plans for at least three pitching lanes for Ps & Cs to work bullpens. There will be an adjustable hitting/multi-purpose area with divider netting that can be moved around to accommodate light fielding work or hitting tunnels. Additionally there are plans to have a new strength & conditioning area in there. The coaching staff sent folks up to the PacNW earlier this summer to see what the Mariners and Driveline Academy are doing with technology to assist in player development. Texas will likely use technology such as HitTrax, Trackman & Raspodo in this new facility. All of these things should help Texas further sell the program and facilities to potential recruits. One thing that I hear on a regular basis is when players leave Texas for the pro ranks, they say “we had it so great at UT. The equipment, the fields, the gear, everything was top notch. The minors are so different.” This new facility will hopefully emphasize the value of coming to UT instead of jumping right from HS to the draft.B) Joeywa
