Quick Coaching Update (Updated Saturday 11AM)

Neither Herman nor anyone else will have "total control" over academic decisions. That's just foolishness.

Saban appears to have that power because Bama has low standards.

Hearing Thursday "Herman to LSU" brew-ha-ha caused UT brass to get serious. Supposedly Herman wants to have the power to assemble the best recruiting staff possible.

With LSU now supposedly naming their existing coach as the man at noon, appears UT may have come to some sort of an agreement in principle with Herman.

Hope this is true.

Higs just reported that Herman did initially accept (verbally) the gig at LSU but called LSU at 5 AM this morning to back out and express interest in Texas

He is also saying that Herman is basically a done deal for Texas at around 5.7 mill

From a poster on another site who says he got this from a UH buddy of his.

"What most people do not know about Herman, is that he has created a total football system and machine which includes the entire program: operations, advertising, marketing (branding), massive recruiting services, community programs, football camps (not anything like what UT does now), media relations, gameday operations, coaching evaluation systems for player development, strength and conditioning, etc. It's very similar to Urban Meyer's operation."

I know I shouldn't but I have always formed an opinion of people very quickly- so it is with Herman.  I watched a couple of his Monday pressers and for some reason he failed to instill much trust in me.  I wonder will potential recruits feel the same way?  Now it is being reported that he had agreed to a contract with LsU yesterday, only to back out early this morning-  More worries about trust.  There would be No way he would get blanket control of anything at UT.  I would work to give him pretty much what he wanted but never total control.  I must admit that my initial impressions have been wrong before- I sure hope that is the case here if he is hired.

Sounds like he is dedicated to paying attention to detail.

Something that the last staff truly struggled with

"I'm told the group of big-money donors who have been pushing for Herman are stepping up to pay $15 million in buyout money of Strong and staff."

I'm going to go out on a limb and claim UT, the most lucrative brand in college football, isn't going to hire Tom Herman to re-model it's media relations, branding and marketing after a less lucrative program.
This is what I mean about not giving Herman total control. If he wants the job of AD, he needs to interview for it. If he wants to be HC, he should go after that job.

U of H wasn't the media and marketing property UT Austin is today. To even insinuate Tom Herman is going to put his brand on LHN, UT's media and marketing agreements or any other non-core football activities is beyond absurd.

Let's not forget, U of H football bleeds money. It operates at a net deficit of over $20 million/yr (50% of its budget). If we want a money losing football program, we will give Tom Herman control over tjings he has no expertise in. Last I noticed, we want a winning football program. Whatever Herman did at U of H, sticking to football would be enough at UT.

I'm curious to see, if Herman takes over the program, whether he brings in Aranda from LSU as DC. Those two together would cause people fits on the recruiting trail, not to mention on the field.
I do wonder what Aranda is thinking. Aside from his relationship with Herman, LSU promoted his DL coach under him to Interim HC and now permanent HC. Now he will be working under someone who was under him. Could this make him more apt to leave and come aboard with Herman?

Exactly.

Herman and Aranda were college roommates. Now Aranda is stuck answering Orgeron and Herman has one if the biggest jobs in college sports, it will be interesting to see what happens.

It's not about how much control Herman will have as much as it is about the mindset he will bring to Texas. Totally different than we have seen in years.

"UH is throwing a Hail Mary counter at Herman that is "no joke," "
Wont happen.....Cougar High
