I have a friend who told me Gilbert is coming. At least, that's what he believed.

In Burnt Ends this week we brought you Cumbie reaction from three high school coaches in the state.  They all raved about the TCU OC, so I went back to two of them and asked about Sterlin Gilbert.  They don't have as much familiarity with Gilbert, but they were able to give us some thoughts.

Coach #1 - "I've never met him but have heard nothing but good things about him.  Having been a QB coach and OC under Babers and Montgomery, you know he's got the skill set Coach Strong is looking for.  His QB development resume is really, really good, and that is their top need"

Coach #2 - "He is a proven OC which will help get Texas kids but his name won't start a big recruiting fire.  His style fits Texas' personnel better".

I agree that his style fits our personnel better, Tulsa's offense leaned on their running backs quite a bit from the look of it. 

Positive news if the has the skill set to actually develop the QB position. That's almost more of a need than anything else on this team. Gilbert and Traylor might prove to be an amazing duo.

Some news about Gilbert is trickling out. I was told by a source in the TXHSFB community that Gilbert was calling around this evening with a pitch somewhere in the ballpark of "If i were to get this job would you join me". Obviously it's not a done deal, but things are progressing. I have a friend who played ball at Tulsa and is connected to the program who told me that Phil Montgomery has been notified that Gilbert will be leaving. Expect things to pick up tomorrow.

Have to assume Matt Mattox is coming with him? Any idea if he'll have same latitude to hire staff as Cumbie apparently would have had? Should we expect OL, RB, and possibly WR coach hires?
