The point on a brisket is typically the fattiest cut. Pitmasters often trim the point (and select edges) off a brisket and return those pieces to the smoker.
Are burnt ends tough, chewy worthless cuts of meat, or are they heavenly bites of smoky goodness? It depends on who you ask...
Rather than discard the trimmings and fat, we choose to savor all the information that flows through the site. So, sit down and help yourself to some burnt ends.

A note on 2017 La Grange (TX) running back JK Dobbins. Dobbins seemed to be a heavy Texas lean early on in the process but his recruitment swung back to more of a 50/50 battle between the Longhorns and Texas A&M. We spoke with a source close to Dobbins that indicated things are going very well for the 'Horns here. The commitment to the run game and need for explosive playmakers at the position puts Texas in very good standing with the 10th ranked player in the HornSports top 50.
It should also be noted that Dobbins is seeing the struggles A&M has committing to the run as part of a balanced offense, which is really starting to play a factor in this recruitment. Dobbins has a strong relationship with Texas A&M coach Clarence McKinney which is keeping the Aggies in contention, but Texas should be able to win this one if they stay the course.

The 2017 class as a whole is stacked at the running back position in state. One player that could emerge as a serious prospect is Mesquite (TX) Horn running back Rajan Cunningham. Cunningham played last season at Bishop Dunne but transferred to Horn this year. We spoke to Cunningham last week and he told us the Texas coaches are aware of him and have spoken to his coaches. Cunningham currently has 8 offers from schools such as California, Iowa, Louisiana Tech, Oregon State, Toledo, SMU, and New Mexico. Unfortunately Cunningham is out for the year with a torn ACL but he is in rehab currently and will be back for spring ball. Keep an eye out for Cunningham as another option at the running back position in 2017.

The big news over the weekend was that Navasota (TX) wide receiver Tren’Davian Dickson took an official visit to Oklahoma. The Texas commit has been the source of multiple rumors and should definitely be on watch, however it’s not dire yet. Dickson is next to impossible to get ahold of as he doesn’t do interviews, but we did talk to someone on the Oklahoma side who said they still weren’t very confident in flipping him. Going forward Texas will need to show improvement in the passing game if they want to keep guys like Dickson on board. The Longhorn offense is effective, but for receivers it doesn’t look very appetizing. This might also come down to if there is an offensive coordinator hired in the offseason and who it is. We’re not sounding the alarm bell yet but this is a situation to keep an eye on.
If Dickson were to defect it seems the Longhorns have a plan B in place. Of course they are already recruiting Southlake (TX) Carroll ATH Lil’Jordan Humphrey who projects at receiver at the next level, but if an opening were to occur I would expect Texas to take a look at Temple (TX) wide receiver Davion Curtis. Curtis is the fastest rising receiver in the state, and he is really starting to blow up. While he’s currently committed to Georgia, we spoke with a source close to Curtis that indicated he would be head over heels with a Texas offer. The source went so far as to say that Texas was one of the few schools he would leave his Georgia commitment for. We were told that TCU and possibly Texas A&M are the other schools he would flip for. That source went on to indicate that TCU was close to an offer and A&M was starting to check him out a little more. Curtis is a speed receiver capable of blowing the top off of defenses and he comes with one more added benefit - Curtis is apparently close with Beaumont (TX) Central running back Devwah Whaley who is at the top of the Texas board for running backs. If Curtis were to come on board he could have some sway on Whaley along with PJ Locke who is already on campus and playing.
So where does Texas stand with Curtis? Jay Norvell has been in contact and is keeping tabs on Curtis at this time. The Longhorns have indicated some interest, but they will need to manage their numbers and see how they can fit him into their class. If something were to happen with one of their receiver commits, keep an eye out here.

Miami head coach Al Golden was shown the door down in Coral Gables this weekend after a horrific loss to Clemson on Saturday. We’re here to address what is on everyone’s mind. What’s that? No, it’s not the question of if Charlie Strong will leave Austin to take the job (as we think that is a silly question to begin with), but rather which south Florida recruits can he poach from the 'Canes 2016 class. It is well documented that Coach Strong loves to recruit the talented South Florida area and you can bet more than a few phone calls are being placed this afternoon. We’ve yet to connect with any of these names, but we thought we’d take a look at a few likely candidates and do some guess work.
Cedrick Wright – Miami (FL) Gulliver Prep: The 5’9 180 lbs. safety holds an offer from Texas with additional offers from Alabama, Cal, Clemson, Florida, Ohio State, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Texas would seem to have as good of a shot as anyone if Wright were to open things up considering they were in his top 3 when he committed to Miami.
Joseph Jackson – Miami (FL) Gulliver Prep: This would be a big one if Charlie could manage to get it done. The 6’6 245 lbs. defensive end holds offers from schools such as Alabama, Arkansas, Clemson, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas. If I’m Charlie Strong I put Chris Vaughn on the case immediately. That said, Texas will be playing from behind. Jackson is thought to like Alabama a lot due to his relationship with Mario Cristobal, who just happens to be a rumored name for the Canes job. It seems like Texas at best would be running third behind the Tide and what could be a Cristobal led Miami team. Still, you can’t win if you don’t try.
Michael Irvin Jr. – Ft. Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas: The former Plano (TX) Prestonwood receiver was on the Texas radar for some time. There is some thought he could be a future tight end/H-Back prospect and the staff is familiar with him.
Tyler Byrd – Naples (FL) High: The 4 star athlete doesn’t hold a Texas offer, but he’d be worth taking a chance at. Current offers from Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and USC. Treat him like a lottery ticket and see what happens.
