High School Football Week 4

Lots of Wabbits out and about in Texas high schools. When I was young, we played Atlanta every year. They were as poor as we were as far as uniforms/equipment went. lol  It's a beautiful little community.

 
My favorite college mascot has to be University of Arkansas-Monticello Fighting Boll Weevils.

Quick notes on Camas, since I know you are all on the edges of your seats.

My boy Austin had his senior season come to an abrupt end early in the 2nd half of the game against Federal Way on Saturday. :(

He was covering a kickoff and was blocked cleanly, with his left leg just planted. His knee is done for the season, and while he has already had the MRI, he and I will go to the orthopedist tomorrow to review the images and determine the treatment, whether it be surgery or rehab. If you're the praying type, add him to your list please, for a speedy and complete recovery.

Now, on to the Camas matchup in WA 4A this week.

#1 Camas (2-0) vs UR Rogers (Puyallup) (1-1)

Camas home opener.

Rogers is not very good. They got shellacked last week 44-17 to Tahoma. They gave up 352 yds passing last week. Rogers is picked to finish last in their league this year.

Camas should easily run away with this game, probably by 4 TDs.

Aw dude, I'm sorry to hear that. Losing your senior year really sucks. I'll definitely send a prayer his way. Will he be able to play any Spring sports?

Hoping so.  Just got off the phone with one of the orthopedists.  He told me that it appears the ACL is ruptured, but he will wait to see the actual MRI results tomorrow, (as I sent him only text images that my son sent me-I'm on the road and will be home in the AM.) 

The rehab is 7-8 months, so my hope is that he takes this time to rehab properly, uses the down time to study for his ACT/SAT in October, and can be ready to play baseball in the spring at some point.  At the very least, he will play summer baseball prior to going off to college.  Baseball has always been his #1 sport. 

And thanks for the prayers.

Thanks Street.  You know, I told Austin that this didn't happen because he was out of position, out of shape, was the victim of a cheapshot or anything else.  It happened because it happened.  He can't go back and change it.  It's how he handles this going forward that will shape the man he becomes.  He can study for his college entrance exams in his newly found free time.  He can sit on a bucket in the garage and hit baseballs off of a tee into the net.  He can work on his core strength and upper body strength.  He can do some self reflection and learn something new about himself.  I also told him that his attitude throughout the rehab process will determine how quickly or how slowly he is able to recover. 

So we are not throwing some damned ol' pity party for him.  This happened.  You can't change it.  Now let's get to work.

Certainly keeping the young man in my thoughts. Sounds like you're handling it all pretty well. Hope he's up and running for baseball season.

Sorry to hear about your son's injury. I wish him a successful surgery and rehab. I blew out my hamstrings multiple times in high school soccer, ended up missing my junior year of varsity ball rehabing. Wasn't very happy about sitting out, but was able to play the next season with minimal injuries. Long story longer.....I turned my misfortune into a career as a physical therapist in which I have worked the last 18 years. The injuries and PT I received got me interested in a career path, so something good actually came of those injuries. Still wish I could have avoided them though!

So sad. I blew my left knee out in the 1955 spring game at my high school. Couldn't fix it then, but I was fortunate enough to go on the running track successfully. Even lettered at Texas as a freshman.

It is not the end of the world. Just tell him to take care of it. When he gets to my age it will come back to haunt  him if he doesn't. (I am 76)
