This Oughta Fire You Up

That was amazing. Hook 'em, Kirk! Hook'em, Collin! Hook 'em, Camille! Johnnie, thank you, and Hook 'em!

Cal coaches offered Collin on the visit, but not Kirk.

“Don’t get me wrong, I think my brother’s going to be a first-round draft pick,†Kirk Johnson said. “But they were pretty much telling me I wasn’t good enough.

“I was pissed. I couldn’t sleep that night. I snuck out of my house. It was raining. I didn’t care. I ran to this hill about 10 minutes from our house – and I ran that hill until I couldn’t run it anymore.â€
Give us as many of these kinda players as you can, Lord

The repeated comparisons to Jamal Charles . . I mean, if he's even in the same neighborhood as JC, we're going to be extremely good at the TB position.

I love the fire in this kid. I love the way he responded, within himself, to the rejection at Cal. He's a winner. Of course, I would expect nothing less from Johnnie Johnson's boys.

The whole season I was doing updates on our high school recruits both here in Texas and across the nation, I was amazed at how insignificant (in comparison to Texas) their high school football is in California. Some of our Texas JV games would have more people at them than their varsity games.

I know his ratings had to come from film and word of mouth. The publicity on high school kids out there is so poor it probably cost him a star on his rating. He probably got more publicity on Hornsports than he did anywhere else.

SHA, I'm glad you mentioned that. Remember Ricky's reaction when he visited Texas, the shock and disbelief at our love of football. Of course, Johnnie's sons have seen it many times, I'm certain, but there is no comparison between Texas, California, and many of the other states. Friday Night Lights. You have to see it to believe it.

I love Johnnie's description of Kirk's passion, work ethic, and heart. Did I mention the listed 4.38 ain't too shabby, either? I'll bet J G wouldn't mind letting Kirk score a couple of TD's on Cal-just to drive a stake into their arrogant little hearts. I'll bet every guy on the team hears that story before that game. Love it.

Did I ever tell you about the playoff game in New Mexico, Albuquerque, 5A school, that drew a pathetic 500 people? Gimme a break, people.

Hook 'em!

I have to say, Kirk Johnson was/is may favorite offensive recruit of the 2015 class. I love watching him run - his balance, vision, and speed; and he's always looking for a way outta trouble... before there's even a sign of trouble!

On top of that, whenever I think about 2016 and his little-big bro's arrival with his own insane skills, I have to be medically treated for abnormally aggrandized goose bumps.
