Final College Football Poll Released

While I think a conference championship played a part and that needs to be fixed, I am not so sure that they would have picked the winner of Baylor/TCU one tOSU. Baylor beat a higher ranked team last night than tOSU. Once they saw they could get on of the big names and have a legit argument for picking them, it was over.

As for the conference championship, I hope either the NCAA removes the rule that requires 12 teams to be able to have a CFG, or we pick up 2 more teams. Unfortunately the latter would take a few years.

Oh and it is good to see one of the best posters back! Welcome back SFlonghorngirl!
The expansion of playoffs to 6-8 team is inevitable. Do you think the NCAA/ESPN will restructure contact sooner than later? Or would we have to wait until contract expires, similar to when BCS contract expired for new format to take place?

I assume a bigger playoff means more revenue, much like the March madness format. ESPN would be more than happy to make more money if that means an expansion. Should be interesting to see what transpires over the next few seasons, with the Big12 as well.

I don't know. I doubt that they had the foresight to write in a provision to spread to 8 Teams. Most likely we are stuck at 4 for a few years.

there also needs to be more equality in conferences. same number of conf games, conf title games for everyone or no one, same number of teams in conf.

i think the ideal way is:

A)have 8, 10 team conferences and an 8 team playoff.

B)have 4, 16 team conferences and have the CCG as the quarterfinals and 4 team playoffs.

all games must be vs a member of the A)80 team or B)64 team leagues and same number of conference games.

Take the humans and the computer out of it. Would have some great non-conf match ups bc its all about winning your conference.

Spot on! Also for OOC games, the NCAA should decide whom plays whom for their OOC games. Have a schedule release party like the NFL does, but immediately after the National Championship Game.

Screw the NCAA - they are bumbling, ineffectual, sycophantic bureaucrats!

As an organization, they've outlived their usefulness to BIG TIME conferences and athletic departments. Let those clowns go administer FCS, D2, & D3.  The newly realigned FBS power schools should police themselves with agreed upon rules.

OOC games should have match-ups that appeal to TV partners and advertisers.  I like the "schedule release" idea if all games are compelling and are played with only FBS teams.

Like several others have alluded to and like this article says, SIZE MATTERS.

A case can be made for Ohio State, TCU, and Baylor as far as performance on the field. For any of them. None of them stands out from the other when it comes to on the field.

But TCU and Baylor ain't Ohio State off the field, i.e. how many fans will follow them and how many eyeballs will watch. That means MONEY and that was the deciding factor. Take it to the bank. Follow the money and show me the money will always be the deciding factor when on the field doesn't decide it.

I mean, think about it. TCU wins by 52 and drops 3 places in the final poll. Wisconsin loses by 59 and drops only 5 places!. What a farce.

You will have this every year until there is an NFL like playoff system with no polls involved. Until then, SIZE MATTERS!

Interesting comments by the chairman of the committee:

 • Big12 co champions was a factor - Shame on the Big12 for presenting co champions and not having a championship game.
 • Ohio State - conference championship made a big difference
 • Last week 3-6 was a toss up...hmmmm
 • Head to head did make a difference between Baylor & TCU - Finally
 • Strength of schedule made a difference - Hear that Baylor
I'm not sure they didn't get it right.
I'll add the real reasons:

Neither TCU or Baylor could fill a 100,000 seat stadium.  Hell, they can't fill their own 45,000 seat stadiums.

And this translates to TV's as well.

It's all about money, folks, as I have been telling you.

If conference Championship is such a big deal, then TWO teams from the same conference should NEVER be considered in the final four. If they felt so strongly about Conference Championships, then why was both Bama and Miss State in the mix at all during the last few weeks ? They are talking out both sides of their mouths on this because it is all about the BRAND and $$$$$. The little man (TCU's and Baylors of the FB world ) don't stand a chance.

You have the wrong four letters. The NCAA doesn't control college football. ESPN does....and ESPN has things just the way they want it. Making big $$$$$ and kowtowing to the $EC.

Actually, you have it backwards.  ESPN doesn't kowtow to the SEC - they RUN the SEC.  Better put - their MONEY runs the SEC.

Everyone runs down the LHN - that's laughable.  There is not a team in the nation that wouldn't have prostituted themselves for $350 million.  Hell, Texas with all it's money sure did.  THAT'S how ESPN rolls.
