Horns to Texas Bowl (story)

Sunday was full of mixed emotions for college football fans. They day began with both Baylor and TCU being left out of the 4-team college football playoff. Fans in Waco and Fort Worth were irate. Fans from the rest of the Big 12 felt cheated.

Then Texas was selected to play in Houston at the AdvoCare Texas Bowl. Longhorns were happy.

Next, the SEC played puppetmaster and waited until the late afternoon to place a team in the Texas Bowl. Texas fans got excited at the prospect of playing Texas A&M, who was one of the last SEC teams to have their matchup announced.

Then, the SEC announced Arkansas as their representative to the Texas Bowl. After holding out hope for a matchup against the Aggies, emotions for the game against the Razorbacks are best described as indifference with a side of apathy.

The result of the roller coaster day: the Horns finally know their bowl game, opponent, and destination.

THE GAME
Date: Monday, December 29
Time: 8:00 PM (Central)
TV: ESPN

Although neither Texas or Arkansas has played in the Texas Bowl, the two teams have played 77 times since 1894. Texas leads the all-time series 56-21.

THE OPPONENT
Arkansas Razorbacks
6-6 overall record, 2-6 SEC record

Playing a total of 8 teams ranked in the Top 25, the Arkansas defense allowed 20.3 ppg. The Razorbacks were 2-6 in those 8 games.

On offense, Arkansas averages over 220 yards rushing/game (29th in country). Junior Jonathan Williams and sophomore Alex Collins split the running back duty.

Not a good match up for us. But I suppose that's why the SEC picked them.

I don't like the privilege that the SEC seemingly enjoys that other conferences do not. It allows them to participate directly with the ongoing myth of the SEC.

Completely agree. I think all other conferences should do the same. Very unfair.

It clearly should be Texas vs TexasA&M, thats what the bowl would select. SEC/Aggie being scared and picking matchups ruins the lower tier bowls and its a huge unfair advantage. BC in January sec will claim a superior bowl record and say "look how good we are."

Exactly.

I don't blame the sec. They're working a system that allows itself to be worked.
They play e$pn like a fiddle.

Side effect: The men's hoops game vs Rice on 12-29 is now going to be at NOON. It'll still be on LHN.

The Arkansas offensive line is bigger than most NFL teams'.  They have the biggest line in college football, averaging 6-6, 324 lbs.
