dreams do come true....
Lakeland (Fla.) Victory Christian star linebacker Cecil Cherry has been a long time commitment to the University of Tennessee. But after a trip to Austin this past weekend a college destination change could be on the horizon when national signing day comes in February. Today, Cherry raved about his official visit to Texas.
â€Man, the atmosphere, the town, the school, the football program… everything was amazing,†Cherry said.
“Coach [Charlie] Strong is just an amazing person. He keeps it real and he’s so genuine. Coach Strong tells it like it is. He’s just a wonderful man and we all know what a great coach he is. He knows what he’s looking for and that can come from different places. Look at me, I am a guy from Polk County in Florida and they want me. Then again, coach Strong knows better than anyone what kind of players come from Polk County.â€
The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Cherry sounds fired up about the Longhorns and he should be. Believe it or not, this hard-hitting linebacker from Frostproof grow up a diehard Texas fan.
â€Believe it or not Texas is my dream school,†Cherry said. “I have loved them ever since I was little. I am a huge fan of Vince Young and Colt McCoy. It’s those guys that had me loving Texas. I remember when they played in the national title game.â€
While it sounds good with the Longhorns, Cherry insists that he’s still very much committed to the Volunteers. He made his pledge to Butch Jones almost a year ago.
â€It’s the SEC and they are a team that’s really coming on,†Cherry said. “That has really stuck with me. They are on their way to doing some big things. I know that’s what coach Jones will be doing there in Knoxville.
â€I am still committed to Tennessee. But I want to make all five of my visits. I just came from Texas. At the end of the day, I have to make the best decision for me. It’s a life decision and I have to make sure I go to the school that benefits me. I am the one that will be putting in all the work.â€
