What: Baylor Bears 4-0 (1-0) vs Texas Longhorns 2-2 (1-0)

When: Saturday Oct. 4, 2014 at 2:30 PM (ABC)

Where: Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin TX.

Odds: Baylor +14.5

The Good:

The Art Briles train continues to roll in Waco. Baylor boasts the top offense in the nation averaging 641 yards per game to go along with a 56 point average. Bryce Petty continues to put up video game numbers while true freshman K.D. Cannon leads all Big 12 receivers. The Bears have found more balance for their offense as well averaging 239 yards per game on the ground. The Baylor offensive line has yet to give up a sack this season as well. They’ve added a much improved defense to the mix as well led by the monster defensive end Shawn Oakman and middle linebacker Bryce Hager. The Bears are holding opponents to an average of 250 yards per game and 14 points.

The Bad:

There isn’t a lot of bad to point to when it comes to Baylor. The Bears did struggle to contain Iowa State’s Sam Richardson and the defense hasn’t forced many turnovers thus far.

The Uncertain:

Bryce Petty did sustain a somewhat serious back injury in the first game of the season and is continuing to play through it. Team personnel have said the injury is more about pain tolerance than anything else. Though his offensive line has kept him nearly untouched, he could experience more pain if opposing defenses start to get pressure on him.

What’s at Stake:

For Baylor, they are in the pole position for a second straight conference championship and are looking to tighten their grip on some of the state’s top prospects. Some of these prospects will be in attendance on Saturday and Baylor would love to put on a show for any of those who are undecided.

We've got our work cut out for us for sure on Saturday. Gotta find someway to slow them down. Gotta get to Petty somehow. I'd like to see us press every receiver at the line and knock the shit outta them on every snap to disrupt the timing.

I can see our defense holding them within range for at least part of the game.

But I dont see any way they can do it the entire game.  The offense has to find a way to help them.  Otherwise, it will turn into a long day.

Against Baylor of all teams. If I had told you in 2005 that we'd soon be a double digit home dog to BAYLOR you would have called the police.

The line opened Baylor -14.5, and has moved out to Baylor -16.

I wonder how far we have to go back find Texas that big of a home dog?

I remember those days.  Alot of folks thought Baylor should not be in the Big 12 at all (and they were pretty f'n bad).

Art Briles = pretty good hire.

Crap guys did yall just wake up yesterday. .. there has been 4 years of this crap and that's why we hired Strong.. I will be at the game and yelling for a victory all the same... #ittakestime

I've got a pic of my then 2-yr old son, on my shoulders, in the stands with the N. End Zone scoreboard behind us when we won that one that sits in my office now.   His first Longhorn football game.  Great memory.

I didnt see this elsewhere -- True frosh Elijah Rodriguez is taking first team reps at guard since Sed Flowers was injured at KU

In addition, it is beginning to sound like Dom Espinosa may be done with football.  They say he has been talking about going into coaching and is already losing weight.

There is also quite a bit of talk that Desmond Harrison wont be back.

We are amazingly thin on the OL

Good grief...a true frosh at G now???  We may need to line up in the shotgun just to protect Swoopes and buy him an extra second at the snap.

I can't blame Dom if he wants to move on with his life.  He's not really a NFL-caliber prospect, so why not follow his passion into coaching?  He gave his all for 40 games at UT.

WTF is up with Dez?  Let's fish or cut bait already.

I tell you, this game will say a lot about where this team is mentally. Baylor will put this defense and offense under a lot of pressure.

Not only does they defense have to slow them down, the offense has to put together a complete game and if possible open it up.

A New York Times study says, popularity wise, the Longhorns still own Texas
