My theory is that Mullen told him to see if he could find another job. Don't think he did a great job at MSU. Add him to Chris Rumph who were likely rejects from their current teams (I.E. it was probably recommended that they try to find another gig).

My guess is this situation is similar to their Offensive Coordinator situation (I.E. Saban wants to replace the coach so the coach takes another job). The Alabama boards seem to think this as well, saying that Saban is cleaning house a bit at Alabama. Not sure if this is a great hire or not.
