Greetings from Afghanistan,
There is no greater honor than being able to spend yet another 4th of July deployed in service to my country. I'm so thankful for everything that we have in America, and the opportunities that we are presented in being able to help others less fortunate. Most of the world sleeps every night on the cold, hard ground in a 100 square foot mud hut with their entire family. Every day is about survival and simply making it to the next one. There are no BBQ's and beach trips or cold beers to pass around.
Yes, Independence Day is one of celebration, but it should also be one of reflection. We have all that we possess because of the brave men who went long before us, and the ones who continue to fight today. Our Independence was won, not given; and not without great sacrifice or loss of life.
John Stuart Mill once said, "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
Words cannot describe how much I appreciate what everyone involved with Caring For Camo has done and continues to do. This war is not over, and to us troops there will always be something worth fighting for. So keep doing what you do by supporting what we do for all of you. I didn't do a damn thing to deserve the life I lead in the US, and try as I might I'll never do enough to earn it. But that will never stop me from giving it a shot... You're only here one time, no point in burying your head in the sand, because we'll all be covered in dirt one day anyway!
