in the adams scenario (2 undefeated champs, 3 one-loss champs), yeah...somebody gets left out. Who ? who knows. Historically the biggest factor is 'when did you lose'. say UT loses to ucla and runs the table. i like our chances.
the clamoring for a title game ignores our own history. we LOST a shot at a NC in '01 and damn near lost one in '09. it did nothing to help us in '05.
bottom line, a one-loss texas will stand as good a chance as anybody and probably better.

The only thing I don't like about the Big12 right now is our brand.
I mocked the Big 10 for years when they had 11 teams. Childish, yes, and they handled that problem with a B1G re-brand. Word is, we hold the trademarks to Big14 & Big16. Do I think we'll stand at 10 teams indefinitely? No

Not saying it will ever happen. but....The constant murmur of BYU joining doesn't excite me at all, even for football only. There just don't seem to be any solid candidates currently available that move the meter. Raiding another conference seems to be the only viable option , & those chances are slim. We could maybe pick off 2 from either the PAC or the SEC but really, good luck. The only option tthat seems very real for expansion is the unorchestrated demise of the ACC with 2 going B1G, 2 going SEC & 6 going Big12. The better solution would be a resturcturing of the D4 football into area based leagues without regard to the respective conferences and an expansion of the playoffs to 8 teams. The best might be a European Soccer league style of flexible leagues, but I seriously doubt that would ever happen. It all depends upon how greedy the B1G & the SEC are, and if they can see the benefits for college football to maintain some competitiveness.

I do not see the Big 12 as a liability if we field a championship quality team. There are certainly a couple of weak sisters in the conference at any one time, but the "mid-level" teams can be very good. Some of the teams do play a pretty light schedule, and I would like to see them strengthened, but a few need to do that in order to have a chance at bowl eligibility. Tech comes to mind as one that is good enough to strengthen its schedule some. Kansas and Iowa State cannot and will not.
Everyone that wants to bad mouth the Big 12 needs to understand that the league made $220 million last year. That is a darned good per team number. So they must be doing something right.
No other team should be added that cannot add enough to the pie that the rest of the teams don't have to take a cut. That means there will be no expansion, IMHO.

What will aggie do when the SEC disbands as a football conference and is lumped into the "Southwest Pod" of the new geographic alignment?

The president of FSU was adamantly agains FSU joining the Big 12. It was just a FSU board member that coveted the Big 12.
Clemson never was campaigning for the Big 12. That was an internet rumor that simply got legs - nobody knows why.
There are, infact, a couple of teams that would definetly entertain an invitation to join the Big 12 - and, no, I'm not talking about BYU. You would be shocked to hear who one of them is and it's not on the east coast, either.
The Big 12 made 220 due to the Texas brand (not recent performance), the Oklahoma brand, the Texas/OU game, Kansas basketball, and to a lesser extent, Texas basketball. Unless I'm mistaken, it's Texas and the Texas/OU pairing that carry the conference. With Texas down, it's been good to have some others step up, but they can't carry themselves, much less a conference.
With the working theory above, there is no one to add, except Notre Dame, that is a value add. Court cases haven't been decided, etc. You have to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em. Right now it's time to hold.

LOL! Java I must apologize to the board for throwing out that openly "look at me" teaser.
I'll address your question as best I can. First of all, I heard my info about 3rd or 4th hand - so that should be a red flag in itself. I did hear it from a UT connected guy, but this kind of info is not really in the realm of his expertise. He heard from a guy who heard it from a guy. You get the picture?
As far as Notre Dame? I can only hope that UT never again gets into any kind of discussion with the brothers - EVER AGAIN! If you think the aggys stabbed us in the back, look no further than South Bend. So, no, it's not the eccesiastical embezzlers.
I was reluctant to give a name as it would be almost incredulous and these kinds of rumors can take legs. It is the internet, you know. Let's just say you don't have to go very far east, past the Texas border, to discover who I am talking about (it's not LSU).
The ironic thing is we can thank the College Station back stabbers for the so called recent interest. I'll let Darrell discuss this later on.
I can assure you that there would be joy in Austin if it came to fruition.
Lets just let the coming months play out and see if there is any actual traction to this ridiculous rumor.
