A good laugh for the morning

I come from a long line of disreputable hillbillies, so I must say that my family resembles that song!  ;)

Sad to say but I remember that song.

Reminds me my time in West Virginia. When I moved up there, the first guy I met said, " meet my wife and sister. "

There was just one woman behind him.

Look, most of them folks are friendly during daylight hours, just don't stay after dark.  Then, all bets are off.  Kind of like lands predominately settled by aggies.  Now please realize that I come from a long line of hillbillies, so I know from whence I am articulating.

hilarious!

are they from kentucky vs west virginia?

Who?  The musicians or the hillbillies?  The musicians could be from anywhere.  The hillbillies that I am referring to are from the highlands of northeastern Tennessee from around  Bristol and Kingsport.  When i lived there, I was told that the Knobs, an area south  of the highway between Bristol and Kingsport were a place wheret you did not want to be after dark.  The knobs were very ancient mountains worn down like those old decaying mountains that you see in those beautiful mountain photographs in China.  I visited an old bachelor farmer up in the Kmobs one summer. It was like going back into time.  Those highlands were passed over by the industrial revolution when it happened, and those hillbillies who are the cousins of my forebears were left behind.  They are not like the rest of us.  They are their own selves.  When I visited that old bachelor farmer, for lunch we had watermelon and field corn that you could not imagine.  Kernels roasted on the cob as big as a nickel.  Not sweet, but starchy and chewy and smokey.  A full meal in and of its' own self.  We had wonderful  deformed  tomatoes and potatoes, grilled with butter on an outdoor stone grill.  Maybe the best meal I ever had.  Here is a video from the movie "The Songcatcher". A movie about a woman who went up into those mountains to collect the songs of the people that lived there.  Iris DeMent is the singer is the video. She is a good singer worthy of a listen in her own right   Sorry for my diversion.  I like telling stories.  I like the way the words feel when they roll out of my mouth.

Thank you monarch.  This is what I like about this forum.  I like to share things that other folks posts djin up in me.  This forum seems to be very forgiving, and I will continue to share even when my wife reminds me that late at night I should have  come to bed a long time ago.

Well that sucks.  I remember the original from back in the 40s by Lonzo and Oscar.
