GAME WEEK – #7 Ole Miss at #19 Texas

On Arch transferring, I really don’t see it unless he is benched.
Now back to game week. How about we run some wishbone with Niblett or Wingo as the pitch man. Sounds crazy but it couldn’t work any worse than most of the running plays we are currently using!

IMO, yes it is. Just a year ago we seemingly went through the exact same thing with Arch. It wasn't until game #8 that his light turned on and we started rolling.

After that, we all saw what Arch Manning can be.

Given the history, I'm suggesting history might repeat itself here. IMO, it's way premature to start talking transfers and benchings, etc.

I want to just see how it all plays out without presuming success or failure.

I was at this game. Thrilling game indeed
Just got back from Ft Worth and spent some time listening to ESPN's Sirrus channel. The top subject they discussed today was "where does Arch Manning transfer to?"

This is ridiculous
Arch gets people to tune in / click on.... I've about had it with every commentator breaking down Arch's footwork, eyeballs, psycho-analysis, etc....

If Arch does come back, we likely lose Lacey. If he doesn't return, I imagine he throws his hat in the NFL ring. But I know about as much as all of the expert analysists.

Maybe so. Maybe not.... We never do anything easy
If we lose this game there is no doubt we have the wrong coach.....period. Therefore I can absolutely guarantee an easy win.

We seem to always twist in the wind....like it is a rule
I was at the game. Exciting win. To paraphrase the great Bill Parcels, "you are what you are." This team cannot stand to have a comfortable lead. It's in our DNA. I didn't eat the cheese on Saturday. I expected us to lose the lead, and as you know, wasn't surprised.

If you go right down to the wire every single game (which we have with every team we've played from a power conference), you're going to lose somewhere around 50% of those games. We have 5 more games - three of which have talent in our zip code (all on the road). I will be pleasantly surprised if we go through the rest of the season with less than 2 more losses.... I hate to say.

Edit: Right now we're 3-2 in close games vs power opponents. Which, by thte way, is the only type of game we play against power opponents.

I'm going to throw this out there - and I may be talking out of the wrong orifice. With regard to the "hands team."

If the opponent kicks a screaming ground ball at the front line.... there is no rule that you must attempt to field it at the 10 yard mark. Fielding a hot grounder that is a football is about as low percentage a task as I can imagine in sports. Unless you get a candy-hop, let it go by and either go out of bounds or let someone in tier 2 fall on it. And, as you let it go by, become a blocker and pick off an opponent trying to get to the ball. We keep trying to field a hot grounder like we're playing the hot corner in baseball, and batting it up in the air or back to the other team!

That is my $.02 from an expert armchair QB. I'm happy to be corrected by one of our resident coaches who get paid to coach.

Seeing a 6-3 RB reminded me of Edwin Simmons. The way he strides, etc... For those of us who saw Edwin - pre knee surgery... this is quite a statement.
Edwin Simmons..... I remember how he tore through a tough ousux defense. I thought he was the next Eric Dickerson. Then he got injured and never really made it back. What a shame.

I had Edwin in a class with me. Or I should say he was enrolled in the same class. He came in the first day and the final. He had a Texas Angel attend and take notes for him. It was a small class. I remember one day the prof asking the Angel "who are you?". She told him and he just shook his head.

At the final, about 30 mins into it, Edwin asked the prof "Can we make a deal?"

Exactly! If it is coming in hot, either let it go or swat it out of bounds.

I agree. If the draft were to be held tomorrow, Arch would go in the 6th round. Thats not going to be what he wants. Of course, that changes if Arch turns into superman the rest of this season.

I like Lacy. But my real anticipation comes with Dia Bell. He's got the arm, the legs, the size, the gutty mojo, does really well under stress.

That is hilarious.

Back in 1982, I was named to the All East Texas team named by the Longview Morning Journal. They did a group photo of us in our uniforms. Simmons was on the team also, the only representative from Hawkins. I knew who he was and had heard Texas was after him. So naturally I kinda watched him that day. He had a man who was with him, I assumed it was his father. But I never saw Simmons say a word to anybody the whole time.

I lived in Caddo Mills (Northeast Texas) and my kids played sports there. They still talk about a track meet in Caddo, where Edwin Simmons and Stanley Richards both ran. I guess the track kind of tilted when those two large humans were running.
