I don't think OU is getting rid of players. I think players are getting rid of OU.

The HC's neck is on the line. Assistant coaches have no job security. Losing six games and really no real hope in sight.

So Venables answers by bringing in a bunch of small school players.

I'm just fine with that.

If OU hasn't figured out by now that Venables is not true HC material, then they deserve what they'll get next year.
You probably have a lot more information than I do. I have none. LOL My post was based on sooner claiming coaches asking players to leave and/or players couldn't handle regiments. That is usually a sign of team trying to unload players. Sounds like that is the story being floated as opposed to players abounding ship. What you are saying sounds more like a culture issue. All I can say is 😁

Signed a 6 year deal in July. Total 51.6 million.

I'm not sure how much the buyout is, which is the thing that determines the level of financial commitment from the school. My guess is that the buyout isn't very high.

They can fire him and buy his contract. But Texas would have gone to the SEC faster had OU been able to pay their share of the exit fee. They couldn't.

So they may be stuck with him a year or two more.

You know what I was just thinking about that as soon as you said that I could not for the life of me why they couldn't do it

Could be.

My wife's Georgia cousin asked me if ou had oil money like Texas and aggy. I looked up the endowment of Texas and ou. TX has a 45 billion endowment vs 1.6 billion for ou, so they definitely have way less money to throw around.

It seems to me that there was enough questions about Venables that they probably didn't need to have much guaranteed money to get him sign(not ike any top schools were drooling over him). My guess is his buyout isn't all that much, so if things tank they will be able to move on without too much pain.

The bigger question is can they get a better coach to come to Norman given the apparent lack of funds for a high dollar staff, crazy NIL prices and the revenue sharing that is coming.

Is OU the next Nebraska?

Could be.

If Aruckle is all they hope he is then it will buy Venables another couple of seasons but is likely that he will peak at 8-4. Not enough to appease the fans or the admin. At that point a young up and comer will be interested in the next step for their career. The sooners will hope to catch lightning in a bottle again like they did with Stoops or Riley only to find out that they will struggle to compete on a yearly basis in the SEC.
