2023-24 Transfer Portal Thread (PORTAL CLOSED)

I wonder of the threat of losing other players to the portal plays into decisions like this?
of course it does, Alabama is so afraid of all the players leaving now that Saban is retiring, they will move quickly to hire someone to stabilize the program immediately

I don’t believe Saban will pick his replacement. Why give the Bama fans the opportunity to slam you if the new guy doesn’t workout.

I give the next hire 4 years until they are fired. In their mind a good year is winning the national title and an unacceptable season is missing the final 4.

They try to point our all of the factors for their football program’s success but Nick Saban is the only actual factor. They were above average, nothing special for 23 years before he arrived. That’s what they will be again regardless of the next coach.

IF Alabama hires Sark we should get Saban to un-retire in Austin. I personally believe Saban’s relationships with the Alabama brass caused this retirement.

According to Burton, there is a stall in the Caldwell (DT from Houston) saga, because of the departure of Bo Davis.

Figured that. Hopefully they will get a good replacement and he will sign with tx
I think Bo Davis did a great job, but the rant 2 years ago elevated his status. He's a very good coach, but there are others out there that are available that will do a great job. We'll see who Sark chooses, but we will be ok.

I would think most DL coaches are potential candidates. What coach wouldn't want to be at a program obviously on the rise, get a good raise, coach for Sark, live in Austin, recruit in a fertile state, etc? I have a feeling the number of candidates applying is lengthy. Sark does have a tendency to first go to his Rolodex of quality coaches he's worked with in the past and knows they'd be a cultural fit. That's certainly wise which leads me to believe Freddie Roach could be a leading candidate.

Hopefully Sark won't drag his feet on this, although someone on "On Texas Football" said that Sark isn't forthcoming to the fans when he does make a hire. Recruits and players know who it is long before the fans. It might have been CJ Vogel who said that.

That’s good. I’m not the one who needs to know. Sark has done a pretty good job hiring assistants from what I can see. He keeps getting people to go from coordinators to position coaches. They get spit out on the other side getting upgrades in their positions. The pipeline won’t run dry if he keeps that up.
