Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Probably a conversation to be had in a week or two, but:

How long and how much will Sark's extension be this offseason? He currently makes $5.6 million and has 3 years left on his deal. However, we all know he will use this success to get a raise as he should.

For context, his $5.6 million is 4th in the Big 12 behind Gundy ($7.6 million), Venables ($7.1 million), and Leipold at KU ($5.75 million). In the SEC though, Sark would rank 14th. Only ahead of Lebby at Miss St ($4.5) and Clark Lea at Vandy ($3.05). And overall Sark ranks 32nd in the NCAA in salary.

Dude is due a raise. My best guess is we rip up his current deal and he signs a new 6 year $9 million/year contract to run through 2029. That will make him tied for 10 highest paid coach in the NCAA with Lane Kiffin.

Then we give the rest of the staff a 10% raise to pay the total coaching staff close to $20 million heading into the SEC.

Thoughts?
Give them all a nice bump but let’s wait and string a few 10+ win seasons before we open the vault.
Put some incentives in but not a ton of guaranteed money over multiple years.
We don’t need to go Aggy

I don't know DMAC, Washington/Penix killed us last year in the bowl game. They're very good.

We are way better than last year though. I wasnt impressed with Washington vs Wash St. washington barely won by 3 points and Washington State is 5-7 and isnt even bowl eligible.

I know the playoff expands next year, but the fiasco thatt is happening before our eyes is why Texas and OU left and headed to the SEC....those on the CFP committee dont respect Texas or the BIG 12

That moron that used the excuse Bo Nix is having a great year is absurd, how many years has he been in CFB, same with Penix

The odds of all the favorites winning this weekend are not great
The "moron" is apparently confused between Heisman voting and CFP voting.

When Sark took this job, he was basically on probation to prove that he had put his personal issues behind him and the salary reflected that. Dude has more than proven himself and is due a substantial raise as are the entire staff.

I would guess his extension has certain performance triggers, such as a conference championship and a National Championship, and I would be SHOCKED if his name isn't thrown around by the NFL this off season. I trust CDC to put him where he belongs among other college coaches

Committee chair on live TV after Fowler asks him about how Texas leads Oregon in pretty much every category, but is ranked 2 spots behind them:

"Well, Bo Nix is having a great year" and entirely ignores Fowlers point and question about texas having a better SOS and better common opponent outcome/result.

"We look at everything"

::Ends conversation::

I said its not a foregone conclusion that the Horns are in if Bama beats Georgia. Prepare to be entirely f*cked by the committee on Sunday. We absolutely, 100%, need Bama and Florida St to lose this weekend to have a chance.
The chairman also said Oregon beat a team the committee has in high regard - Ore St. A couple of sentences later he said they don't use just one game to rank teams. Contradicted himself and didn't even realize it. We're screwed.

We do not have the secondary to stop their WRs…

Win 9+ next year and pay him $10mm+ but we should not extend without multiple successful seasons.

In fact, first win the big 12 championship Saturday then prove it wasn’t a fluke with a solid 2024 season. If QE3 is coming back, we should be loaded again.

Not sure how accurate it is to say Washington/Penix killed Texas last year in the bowl game.

Washington won by 7 points.
Washington outgained Texas by 25 yards total in the game. But it took them 18 more plays to do so.

Michael Penix was 32-59 for 287 yards.
Penix's completion rate was 59.3% which is okay at best.
Penix's yards per attempt was 5.3 which is pretty putrid.
Penix's yards per completion was 8.9 which isn't very good.
Penix's Passer Rating was 112.4 which is flat-out horrible.
