*****GAME THREAD: #7 TEXAS LONGHORNS vs. IOWA STATE CYCLONES*****

I stayed away from the thread this game and it worked. Seriously, I was nervous about this game and I gotta say that was the best 2nd half Texas has played since Bama (- the 4th and 1 TD Iowa St had). Really proud of this team and proud to show the whole world that I'm a Longhorn. Awesome, awesome win.

Did you guys hear Sark after the post game interview ? He was running at the players yelling “I see you dancing” LOL
All is well in my world tonight.
Good night fellow longhorns and HOOKEM !

I've noticed it all year, but would love to see an explanation as to why Coach Jackson has the WRs hold the ball out in front of them after the catch.

Worthy could've pulled that in clean.
I assume it's to keep the ball out of reach to avoid a punch-out. Makes sense.

What wrong with Ewers he looks lost on a lot of plays. Goes walk about.
That defense is designed to be very difficult to throw against which is why it's been effectively adopted by several other teams. Takes some time for a QB to dissect it and try to pick it apart.

Ewers looked much better in second half. It is quite apparent PK does not use this defence.😀

Perhaps he uses an even better defense?? Considering his defense gave up fewer points.
Don't you wish. Then the talent is so much better for the Iowa State team

The original post said this def. makes it harder to pass. therefore it not a Texas def.

Just got back from the deer lease. I was able to watch the game since it was a night game.

1. Big 12 refs. I swear.

2. The announcers should be fired. You can't be that one sided for 3/4s of the game. They were practically begging for an Iowa State upset.

3. Ewers still isn't 100 percent and it shows. But Ewers 90 percent isn't bad.

4. ISU got 9 yards rushing on the night. In a day of high octane offenses, this is a huge contrast. Way to go defense.

5. At some point, we probably want to start defending the quick slant.

6. T'Vondre Sweat should be an All American. It is a crime if he doesn't get it.

7. I was elated at Sark's play call on the 3 and 1 where we popped over the top to Jordan Whittington.

8. I was pissed when we gave up the same pass to ISU only a few minutes later. I don't know why we couldn't have snuffed that out. We had been stuffing the run like nobody's business. We and ISU both knew they weren't going to run for the first down.

9. This team needs to get healthy. We have people out and we have people who are playing injured.

10. And then there is Tech. At home. I want to hang 100 on them.

#1. Hey. It was dark.
#'s 2, 3, 4, 6, 9. Agree.
#5. Better than deep balls.
# 7 & 8. The pop pass giveth and the pop pass taketh away. Good calls by both coaches.
#10. It will be dark again. Refs don't see well in the dark.

It was funny how the refs would give favoritism to the calls to Iowa St but then replay had to correct them every time almost lol. It was like a child being caught but keeping on doing the same thing over and over.

I just find the negative talk regarding PK a bit silly overall. We have the best scoring defense in the conference and rank near the top in several categories nationwide (run defense, 3rd down defense, red zone defense, etc).

We have had drives or chunks of games where the defense has been frustrating to watch but really only 1 game in total where the defense had a bad overall performance (OU). It's not hard to see this unit continuing to improve going forward with PK as talent and scheme knowledge improves (and PK can continue to improve as well).

Exactly. Skill and experience is a little lacking in the secondary, but that will continue to improve with recruiting. The cushions we see now will become less common over time. Teams can't run on us so they have to throw and will have some success doing so. It's hard to compare our pass defense against other teams that see a more balanced attack and will have better pass defenses on paper.

First I guess you missed the smilie. . Was about pass defence not total defence. I saw nothing negative vs PK.

Then if you are happy with PK's pass defence, then I am happy for you. Three years and still learning the scheme? As for talent it is there or did Iowa St. have better. IMO the Big 12 is much weaker this year on a whole.
