My thoughts on the first weekend . . .
1. Notre Dame vs Navy became the predictable wipe out that we thought it would be. Why do this as your feature game on opening weekend? Why not have a decent match up and in a place where the college football atmosphere is far better than in Dublin? I turned the channel at halftime and never went back.
2. Can't believe San Jose State put up 28 points on USC. Still, no defense at USC. San Jose State is awful.
3. UTEP is probably embarrassed today by their 17-14 loss to Jacksonville State. If not, they should be.
4. Hawaii traveled thousands of miles to play in Nashville against Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt had all the advantages of a home game. Yet, Hawaii stayed with them to the end. 37-28 was more close than it should have been.
5. ESPN, for whatever reason, featured the two worst teams in the US in UMass and New Mexico State. This was their prime time game. If we're going to have these Week 0 games, the NCAA needs to try to make it worthwhile. This was a terrible way to debut the college football season.
