2024 Recruiting Board/Thread

I thought the biggest issue the last 10 years, at least for 5 or so years, was injury. Remember, we recruited some great TE, then freak accidents. 
 

Aside from David Thomas, who really was a great TE, we had Bo Scaife, who was good, as well.  He had to have knee surgery before he came, and tore up his other knee in 2 a days, if my memory is correct.

Good point Java. Who can forget Blaine Irby who was set to rewrite all the TE records only to have his career sidetracked by injuries.

I posed a question asking if TE has been the position with the worst recruiting results so far. I still think the answer is a resounding yes.

That said, I already shared my thoughts on Washington and I agree with SHA, he'll very quickly be ready as a pass catching TE and depending on his development over the next 12 months he may be ready to be an inline blocker. I think there is a lot of meat on the bone with him and he could turn into a stud.

The problem to me is just how few TE Recruits there are each year. It is a tough position to find guys. You miss your top player on the Recruiting board then it is hard to find a guy in the top 500 overall to sign. You miss a top WR there is still 8 more in the top 100 that live close to go after.

Washington is ranked as the top in state TE and is just inside the top 500.

TE’s on the majority of college teams today are not playing the position of “Y” and some of the best NFL TE’s didn’t play the position in HS. 

Travis Kelce was a QB, George Kittle and Mark Andrews were WR’s.  Ja’Tavion was an “ATH” not a TE by recruiting services  

In my opinion Jordan Washington is the prototype for todays college TE. He’s got good speed, good hands and room to easily carry 20-30 more lbs. He is a jumbo sized WR which is exactly what you need.  

Anyone can be taught to block if they are willing to do it.

Thomas is the best TE Texas has ever had.

I'm not disputing opinion of Thomas, but I'm old school. I still favor Pete Lammons. Pete Lammons played for New York Jets and caught 2 passes in their upset of the Baltimore Colts. The Colts were 19 1/2 point favorites and lost 16 - 7.  Another former Longhorn, George Sauer, Jr. Caught 8 passes in that game. 

When I waa a youngster my uncle took me to meet some Longorn players. He introduced me to Pete Lammons and Tommy Nobis. It was like meeting Greek gods. ?

Who was the TE Texas recruited. It was during the Mack years. He was injured, bulked up, after that he played on the offensive line.

He had great feet, was strong, and was tenacious.  I think he played right tackle, but that may very well be wrong.

Was it Hills or was he always a OT? I think he was the one that had drop foot or something like that and worked really hard to come back.
