Texas vs. Baylor. Weekend baseball series

A sweep would have been better but good to see the boys come back with a win after yesterday's game disaster.

Here's a list of the free passes the Horns issued in Waco, not counting fielding errors:

Friday - 4 walks, 1 HBP, 0 WP (W)

Saturday - 10 walks, 3 HBPs, 4 WPs (L)

Sunday - 12 walks, 2 HBPs, 1 WP (W)

That's a lot of free bases folks and yet we win 2 of 3 games

Really bad start by Charlie Hurley who had been solid so far this year.

Morehouse has been too shakey too often in the closer role, but I'm not sure we have someone better. Pierce and Woody Williams will have to make that call.
Morehouse era  .436  Burke era  .150   Shaw era  .159  Tole  era   221

I saw that the staff was averaging 5.2 per game heading into this weekend.

Friday night was solid and I think almost all those free passes came in the 9th inning.

Very strange weekend by the pitching staff.

Quite possibly, 4 games early in the week was NOT a good idea. Your thoughts?

It is good to keep winning series and the team is playing a bit better then I expected this season but man the Big 12 is just terrible...

Texas leads the way ranked 14th with Tech at 16th. TCU and Oklahoma State just dropped out of the rankings. It is a down year in the league. Texas needs to find a way to take home the conference championship. Losses will hurt RPI big time against the teams ranked low, especially if at home.

I found the new top 25 interesting. Lots of losses from teams in the top of the rankings. Only 1 team in the top 25 went 4-0 last week. Quite a few went 2-2 or 3-2. Just good to keep perspective that in college baseball there aren't many overly dominant teams and most everyone will reach the end of the season with 10 or more losses.

I see 3 teams in the Top 25 who went 4-0 but then again, who did they play? LSU lost 1 to Kentucky at home who was ranked in the Top 10 and has one of the strongest RPIs. I dog the $ec but to have 5 of the top 6 teams, no wonder they have some loses between themselves.

You must be a politician, because it's more than a "down year" for the Big XII.

The university of Texas should be reloading every year, not rebuilding.

Pierce is not a great recruiter. We shouldn’t have this many holes in our lineup or pitching staff.

Uhmmm, excuse me, but it certainly wasn’t ugly last year.

How soon we forget!

Hook ‘em!

I was counting the teams that were in the top 25 last week. Some of the teams that went 4-0 moved up into the top 25.

SEC is loaded and will only be more loaded once Texas joins the mix.

We can call it a "super-duper" down year if ya want. haha. I'm not trying to sugar coat it, having two teams in the top 25 only is pretty abysmal.

Texas baseball is getting plain ugly.
Fellas, we lead the league currently (yes, the big 12 is down this year).

We also are ranked #14 right now, in line to host a regional.

Pierce has been to the CWS 3/5 years.

I feel like too many are so quick to be down on the team. Last year, people were upset about the baseball team and we ended up back in Omaha.

Every pundit and baseball analyst out there felt this would be a rebuild year for UT. And it is. The number of players that left the team at the end of last season had a huge impact. 2/3 starting Ps, C, SS, 3B, 1B (PoY btw) plus one OF. That’s 5/8 starters and 2 of your weekend starters. Pierce has recruited just fine.  His recruiting rankings are just fine.
The Portal and Covid “extra” years have wreaked havoc on college baseball rosters across the country. This is not unique to Texas. Look at what is happening across not only B12, but pretty much every conference.
The next probably 2-3 years in college baseball are going to be interesting coming out of the Covid effects, and it won’t only affect college baseball. You’ll see it in hoops as well as these older players have hung around and played one-two more years as true or pro prospects are likely non-existent.

I think losing a game the way we did has everyone wound up. Sloppy baseball but still good enough against most teams.

But without cleaning up the mistakes this isn’t an Omaha level team. Angie and Pierce of the past has us used to heavy strike throwers and excellent defenders. This team is a step below.

Most all baseball teams lose talent every year. Did Texas lose any one unexpectly,

My take is its not the starting pitching, it is mismanagement ot relif pitching. #1 staff fell in love with Morehead one look atstat. sheet will be enough. His era walks etc spells not the one ro go to first.

However the team is betterthan I thought at first of season. Or conference is a lot weaker.
