Or OSU or TCU. While losing (and winning) conference games there was a lack of urgency. We finally changed the offensive game plan in the 2nd half of the last 2 games, but it was too late.

Pet peeve of mine is bad mechanics fielding punts. Back in the day, coaches would have you stand on the 10 yard line and state if you have to take 1 step back, let it go. Run up like you're catching the ball and hopefully the punt will go into the endzone so you get the ball on the 20.

Last night early in the game, Kansas holds K St and makes them punt. What happens? Dude backs up, slip on what appeared to be a frozen field and fumble the ball inside the 10 yard line.

I have seen Texas and other teams, step back inside the 10 yard plenty of times in the past. I guess this is something they don't teach players anymore but it was drilled in our heads not to, and I wasn't even a punt returner.

I do think punting has improved over the years and many are good at pinning the punts with-in the 10 yard line. I think in situations perhaps, standing at the 5 and not stepping back makes sense.

I'm old school. If I ever get the job at Texas, you will see my punt returners standing at the 10 and not move back. If they do, next man up!  

Of course I'm not as smart as most on this board so I'll get fired and take my millions to the bank. ?

Agree completely!! Same thing I used to teach our punt returners when I coached ST. Force the punter to execute and avoid giving the opponent momentum through a muff or other bad play.
