CWS - Texas vs. Virginia Game Thread

Five teams remain in Omaha....  Texas is one of them.

Following their 8-4 victory over Tennessee on Tuesday to stay alive in Omaha, the Longhorns are back in action on Thursday Night.  Holding strong in the loser's bracket, Texas will face a Virginia team that gave up a large lead and ended up losing 6-5 to Mississippi State on Tuesday evening.  

The Cavaliers have played well with their backs against the wall in this year's postseason, posting an impressive 6-0 record in elimination games in their regional and super regional play.

The winner of this game will have no time for rest, as they will play again tomorrow against Mississippi State at 6:00 PM in a win-or-go-home situation again.  

RHP Mike Vasil (7-5, 4.82 ERA) is expected to get the start for the Cavs and Southpaw Pete Hansen (9-1, 1.79 ERA) will get the nod for the Longhorns.

Vasil has been pretty good for Virginia when he's pitched in a couple other elimination games this Tournament. Need to get to him early.

Hopefully Hansen can stay as hot as he's been all year! 1 win away from being in the final 4 teams left. LFG guys!

Not sure what you’re looking at. 
Vasil was lit up in their Regional game vs Jacksonville, where he started, went 2 frames, threw 53 pitches, gave up 7 hits and 5 earned runs. 
In his only other NCAA Tournament action this year, he came in for 1 inning vs DBU in the Super and threw 22 pitches, gave up 1 hit and no runs in a 6-5 loss. 
He hasn’t been used at all in Omaha.

He began to struggle late in the regular season.  In 15.1 innings over four games in May, he gave up 13 earned runs, 17 total runs, 23 hits, 8 Ks, 9 BBs and 2 HBPs.  Going out on a limb here, but it seems that he may have some control issues. 

Total Pitches/Strikes/ERA over those same four games:

63/40/10.13

77/45/19.29

92/54/3.00

77/48/6.23

I know your Mom raised you right, then you go off and move to Washington. You and your family need to relocate to Texas for about 6 months. We will help you out.

Really depends on how long it takes for the lightning to clear out.  I'm guessing they'll try to get it in tonight, but if the start time runs too much past 10 PM Central, I could see them pushing it to tomorrow morning.

Have a dear friend who came in for one night here from Maine to see his son/DIL and their new baby.  They are going out to dinner and asked me what time my wife and I could go.  I requested 7:30 (9:30 PM Central.)  Then 'Omaha' weather happened.  Grrrr.
