A&M In The Headlines...

This could end up becoming the start of the great aggy migration of 2018.

Decommit season starting early this year

Yup. But not over something like this. My statement was based on the annual aggy decomitment season.

First thoughts in my head after reading this . . . "Hello, is Mr Leal there?"

lol
Now if we could get the upset of year with Northwestern State that would be the cherry on top.

I said this on another site, but let me repeat it here.  And this is not meant to be just an aggy bashing comment, but meant to remind us what we are dealing with.

The aggy administration, BMD's and even some lege members are in a really serious desperation mode.  Begin with their lifelong obsession with UT and their escape from us to the SEC (and don't you ever think it was for the money) and their incredibly stupid payout to Fisher.

Friends, they paid 75 MILLION dollars, betting on the come, for a coach that just went 7 and 6.  They HAD to pay this ridiculous amount just to get him to come and they paid it believing he could bring them to the promised land.

This is classic desperation.

So now we see the first vestiges of cheating.  It's not over.  A school that feels its back is against the wall (75 MILLION dollars) will do anything to ensure they are successful  Anything.

You can etch this in granite that Texas A&M is headed for disaster.  They have to cheat.  Have to.  Hell, they and SMU are two of the reasons for the break up of the SWC.  So it's proven they will cheat.

Our problem is when the time comes, and it will, they will try to take UT down with them - believe me when I say this.

Let's see the aggies hire a big name coach to a big contract that has won a national championship and now a scandal. This brings back nostalgia for when Jackie Sherrill went down. My good buddy Jackie was the coach I disliked the most after Barry Switzer.

The real enjoyment is to see if more things will come out with the goal of the majority of the aggie's 3rd ranked recruiting class will go to other schools.

I'm going to get a big bag of popcorn and enjoy this.

Texas A&M Punished for Recruiting Violations

The National Collegiate Athletic Assn. placed Texas A&M on probation for two years and declared it ineligible for bowl competition this season, and the Southwest Conference said that the Aggies could not compete for the league football championship because of major recruiting violations.

According to the NCAA Friday, Texas A&M committed 16 violations and failed to "exercise appropriate institutional control" over its athletic department. Texas A&M had been favored to win a fourth consecutive football title this year.

"I'm responsible," said Jackie Sherrill, Texas A&M's coach and athletic director. "It's my job. I'm responsible for the program and to make sure things are done correctly."

Sherrill acknowledged that Texas A&M might have received a lighter penalty if he had suspended quarterback Kevin Murray, the apparent source of two of the most serious violations.

Nothing will come from this ,  and I have no doubt that Jimbo and his staff will run the football program just like Miami did in the late eighties and early nineties . It will be corrupt , but it will produce victories because I have no doubt the big money backers will open up their billfolds for the best recruits and their family members to try and make College Station the next Tuscaloosa.

...and Art Briles and the previous pig coach.

Doc, it hasn't been a problem for over a century.

It ain't gonna be a problem now. We're not as brazenly stupid as aggy about...well...anything. IF we are breaking any NCAA rules, these will be misdemeanors. TV and/or bowl sanctions have never come into play for UT. Ain't gonna happen.

F aggy

mctmatt is probably right. I will be shocked if anything comes from this. It will end up being pretty much the proverbial "much ado about nothing". The absolute most that will happen will be a slap on the wrist. But don't hold your breath waiting for even that. It's the freakin NCAA we're talking about here.

Paul Wadlington, aka Scipio Tex, has some pretty good thoughts on the situation over on Barking Carnival.

Doc....you are wrong!   Jimbo did not go 7-6... he went 5-6 before he quit. The interim coach went 2-0 to get FSU to 7-6.....

ok....serious question here. Where in hell in College Station is there to go to even spend $300.00 ? does the Chicken have a cover charge?.....Can you get ribeyes at the Dairy Queen? What does it cost to go bowling there?

Maybe the $300.00 was to get em to Houston or Austin where they could show em a good time??

I don't see much coming of this. Maybe a small fine or some mandatory "counseling" course on NCAA rules for the coaches. For one, you can't prove this wasn't an isolated incident or one coach bending the rules as far as payments. The "practices"? Well that's just one guy trying to transfer versus the rest of the those in need of extra reps. Unless you get someone else to collaborate the story, it's a transfer's word against everyone else.
