Texas Hosting a MAJOR Surprise Visitor...

We caught wind of this yesterday, but were asked to keep it quiet for obvious reasons.
Two things about this extremely weird visit, right after committing:

1.  What's the deal about keeping it quite?  He didn't.

2.  Why is he making this visit anyway?  He ain't leaving aggy.

There is something going on, behind the $cenes, that I want to know about.

So Doc, are you saying he's an Ag lock?  100% per #2 above?  Just making sure I understand as I'm kinda slow.

When we are asked sit on something we do it out of the respect of the source. Given the nature of pressure tactics coming from A&M I’m sure the staff wanted to make sure he made it to campus without them discouraging it.

To your second point, it’s May and I wouldn’t say anything is set in stone just yet. Texas is going to stay on him to the end.

Well, Danie, with all due respect - this kid was a hard lean to Texas and with one visit to aggy, committed to them.  It has been reported that his mother was all in on UT as well?  But what IS set in stone is his commitment to aggy.  That cannot be denied.  Whether or not he stays committed is unknown.  But right now he belongs to aggy for sure.  Everyone else is on the outside looking in.

My point was - SOMETHING happened to get him off the Horns and onto aggy.  And now for him to try to "sneak" back to Austin?  Weird.  And whether there is or not, on the surface It smells of shenanigans going on and the arrow points to doggieland.

It doesn't add up.  Generally, I get a little backside info - in this case nothing.

It’s Recruiting, Doc. Expect the unexpected. Not much surprises me anymore in this business.

Was he leaning to Texas? Yes. But one thing that needs to be cleared up is that this was not his first trip to A&M.

If his commitment was set in stone then he doesn’t make a quick turn around official in the manner that he did. And it isn’t in stone until the fax rolls in.

Im not going to get into the discussion of the “shenanigans” of Recruiting because it’s not a rabbit hole I like going down.

I agree on the rabbit hole, and notwithstanding the usual aggy whining about it, it is only speculation anyway.  But I have heard a few things lately as I'm sure you have.

And, yeah, teenagers and recruiting have always been a bit chaotic.  And not just because of the kids, but because of parents, relatives and other outside influences (girlfriends, etc.).

Meant to tell you, by-the-way, I enjoy your work.  Keep it up.

I think one aspect of the Leal recruitment that is being overlooked is he stated in the past he wanted to play in the sec. in a interview with EJ he talked about this and that early on Lael was an aggy lean and he had his CB on aggy. It wasn’t till after a visit to UT and his mom’s love of UT that made him switch his CB to UT. I don’t think him leaning aggy should be that much of a surprise.

Chaotic is putting it mildly. Like you said the number of influences that pop up in recruitments can reach silly levels in some instances.

Thanks, Doc. I appreciate that.

I don’t quite understand when kids say they “want to play in the SEC”. I could understand wanting to play for Georgia, Alabama, LSU, or teams that might actually compete in the conference but picking A&M so you can play in the SEC is like me wanting a heavy weight boxing title shot in the year 1989. You get a lot of publicity pre fight but the 30 to 90 seconds after the first bell rings makes you realize how idiotic your decision was.

Most want to stay in Texas... Aggy is the only option is the sec that can make that happen.... Yes they can choose another school bur its harder for their parents to get to the games....

I dont get that secsecsec bullshit either. If that is truely the kids entire focus, then why not go to Vanderbilt where you would be assured of being the focus of the team. Are they saying that kids that want to go to Bama want to play for Bama but kids that want to go to aTm want to play for the secsecsec?

Its difficult to understand how aggy has not been able to parlay that situation into a meaningful season. Instead, its gone down hill since Johnny Football left. Its why Fisher was hired.

But you look at their roster and you just don't see it. There are a couple of players who were highly sought, but not a lot. And those that were aren't performing like they were predicted to, such as Mond.

Baylor was a good example of how a school can suddenly be a draw to kids (their offense). That propelled Baylor into the national conversation. Thats not happened with aggy.

I mean, if it can happen in Waco, TX, can't it happen in the lit Station?

the aggs had a lot of momentum.  highly recruited wr in kirk.  all the 5 star qbs that came in.  something or someone really screwed something up that started the mass exodus of the qbs.  not winning hurt them as well.  we have that same problem, not winning.  but somehow we ended up with the #3 class in the nation last yr.
