Way too early predictions - Longhorns

Maryland - lost its entire front 7 to graduation ( DE Jesse Aniebonem returns after being granted a medical year ) and lost 2 guys in the secondary.  If we can't move the ball on them we are in trouble.  They do return all 5 OL and both RB's.  They'll also be running Matt Canada's offense ( see LSU last year ).

Tulsa - tune up for USC

USC - should be an electric atmosphere.  Don't think it'll be high scoring, USC will be breaking in a new QB who will be up against an attacking defense in revenge mode.

TCU - lost a ton but Fatterson is a top notch coach.  Lets see how they come out after playing Ohio State the week before.

K-State - playing in the Purple Wizard's backyard is always worrisome.  And they'll return most everyone on offense.  Defense will be a huge ? though that won't feature a ton of speed either.

OU - we are taking this game this year.

Baylor - shouldn't be a problem.

OK-State - will be interesting to see how the offense looks for them.

TTech - as crazy as it sounds, the defense could be better than the offense.  Not 1 single skill guy returns.

ISU - scrappy bunch, don't take them lightly but our D' should be able to do what they did last year to them.

WVU - dangerous offensive team, I think our D' will play them like they did OK-State this past year at home.  Not a very physical team and a mess on D', especially at DL.

KU - could be cold in late November in Lawrence but that should be the only thing to worry about.
Excellent take.  Keep in mind we play TCU at our house.  That should count for something.  In addition, there is no love lost between Patterson and Herman.  If he can, Herman will take no prisoners.  And I agree, WVU is an absolute trap game.

I can't remember where I read it, but some publication said Vegas will have us favored in every game.  That seems unlikely because - OU.

Should have also noted 3/5 of Maryland's starting OL has missed all of spring practice and Max Bortenschlager has been starting QB.  Pigrome and Hill are still recovering from ACL tears.

Back when we were looking for a new HC, Patterson was my preference.  He can flat coach.  That being said, I hope Herman stomps into a mud hole.  I'm serious, I dislike the SOB personally and I know for a fact the Herman does.  Someday, when I have had a beer too many I'll tell you why.

This is going to be a war.

I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW TO DELETE MULTIPLE IDENTICAL COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh, I think you're there. Tell us more. lol

I wish I could have watched it. I will be watching it on YouTube later today.

I am reading mixed reviews, but from what I have read the OL is still a work in progress. The run game, wr game and qb all looked improved. The D looked salty.  I now the offense is never clicking on all cylinders in the spring but would love to see some improvement.

One I did read was the tackling was much improved which I really like to see.

Keep in mind the OL that was on the field last night will look nothing like what it will come August.  Anderson will man the LT spot and Hudson and Grandy should be full go.

Bingo... when does grandy decide if he goes on his mission or not?

Angilau.  Guess we'll know in about a month if he shows or not.  The general consensus that I've gathered from other sites is they expect him to report in the summer and do his mission trip after college.

Dang it, I was wrong again.... if he comes won’t he be able to contribute also or he need a redshirt year? Thanks slimer

Angilau is a Guard IMO.  Him and Ghirmai at Guard and R. Moore and Jones are Tackles.  I hope all 4 RS.  Angilau is a multi-year starter IMO.

Spring game thoughts:

CAVEAT:  All my opinions should be tempered with the understanding it was simply a spring scrimmage where the defense always knew what to expect from the offense and Herman (for some reason still not understood) decided to mix-match starters on offense.

1.  Both QB's and both RB's were basically meh.  Journeyman play at best.

2. OL was no different than last year's.  (this will improve when the starters play together and Anderson arrives and Okafor is benched)

3. Okafor is not a LT.  In fact is not even a starter.  May could play a little guard.  Maybe.

4. LJH is legit and a chain mover

5. Receivers are MUCH better than last year.  If the OL can give the average QB's a little time, it will open up the running game.

6. Ingram and Anderson can't get here quick enough.

7. UT needs to pay for a criminal lawyer for Hager.  He is going to kill someone this year.

8. LB's looked vicious

9.  DL will be unfair this year

10. DB's are simply awesome

12. 11.  Freshmen QB's looked good playing against the scrubs.  Rising will be the first true QB since Colt.  Both he and Thompson need to RS.

Thanks doc. Much appreciated

I re-watched the game and saw where the defense was mostly vanilla.  This defense could be one of the best defenses I have ever seen in college football.  And that spans more than a few years.  I base this rather surprising comment on the talent I see, but mostly on Orlando's intelligent usage and game management.

I promise you we will be surprised when an opponents offense scores on this group.

I agree. As I said in the game thread, it would not surprise me to see this defense be every bit as good as last year's. They have a very confident swagger about them that only the best defenses have.

On the other hand, I see an offense with very little confidence and swagger.

What concerns me about the offense the most, is they don't seem to have a basis.  Just like last year.  Trick plays in a spring game.  wtf?  Herman better find a signature offense in a hurry.  Put a starting QB out there, along with a starting RB and devil take the hindmost.
