Since we couldn't do one Friday, we will be doing a chat on this beautiful NFL Sunday. Speaking of the NFL...

The Texans handled the Raiders yesterday, as they should. As a Houston fan, I am petrified of playing the Patriots next round. Also as a Texans fan, I am ecstatic with the way Jadaveon Clowney has developed. He and JJ Watt on the same line together is a scary thought.

The dead period ends at midnight on January 12th. Once it is over, the Texas staff is going to hit the ground running. It's hard to say who will finish out the class, but if I had to guess, these are my picks:

Omar Manning

K'lavon Chaisson

Gary Johnson

Grant Polley

Bryan Jones (wildcard)

What are your thoughts this Sunday? Any and all questions are welcome. Fire away when ready!

Who will be the first 2018 kid to pull the trigger for the the good guys?

Out of curiosity why Bryan Jones? I haven't heard much rumblings about Jones

I tnink being a former teammate of Malcolm Roach will help Texas a ton. He and Malcolm are both similar recruits. Both very underrated. He's also taking an OV to Texas the weekend before signing day.

Lol Harrison I'm gonna jump ahead to 2018 if that's fine. Any word on Anthony Cook? He's a must get

Ahhhh. I can't answer that right now. If it were right now, it would be someone the staff has built a relationship with, like Joshua Moore. Many of the offers going out now are in order to begin reationships. Texas won't reel in many 2018 kids until they (hopefully) win some games in 2017

Absolutely! LSU is the favorite right now, but there's plenty of time to go. Texas will be in the mix for he and BJ Foster (Angleton). In fact, they safe Foster's leader. He's the #1 safety in the 2018 class

I saw Filaga didn't pick us yesterday. Wasn't that a hopeful?
No. He left Texas out of his top 3 schools. After that, he did not look at Texas. He has been committed silently to Michigan for some time. Finally announced it yesterday at AA game

Now that I think about it... probably BJ Foster. He loves Texas and they love him. He could be someone that pulls the trigger early. But with him, he will get tons of big offers. So if he did commit early, probably would not stick

If we start winning this year let's say we go 9-3 and win our bowl game to finish 10-3 will that start making elite Texas talent look at Texas again?

Grant Polley or Newman. Which one fits better and which one has a better chance of signing.

Polley is definitely the more likely of the 2 to sign. In terms of fit, both are good fits at their respective positions. I like Polley because Texas is going to need more OTs soon.

I think Sam Ehlinger is a perfect fir for this offense, but I don't think we want to have consecutive years starting true freshman. My question is, will Shane Buechele be utilized in the power spread or will they take a look at Heard in that role (even as the primary backup)? The one thing that concerns me about Shane is his diminutive size (relatively speaking) to take that many hits running the ball. I know he is tough, but that is potentially a lot of hits.

I don't see Heard moving back. Shane will be utilized. One interesting thing Herman said about this offense is that the QB "doesn't have to be Braxton Miller, they just have to make defenses pay for not respecting their ability to run." I think Shane will be used in that way. He will also bulk up this offseason, which will help with taking hits.
