So im on vacation in south America randomly meet the players of a current Texas scholarship player.

After a few drinks as people do on vacation they tell me the players feel as though Gilbert was basically mailing in the last few games of the season trying to get fired as he wanted out of Austin.

that would explain a lot

Getting fired never looks good on your resume.
Yea, I'm with Bear on this one, especially when you're a young coach who wants a head coaching job one day.

Not that I believe that's how Gilbert would go about it but it makes sense. I mean, no one is blaming him or the offense. Even him not being retained all falls on Strong's shoulders...

I cant speak for the authenticity of the parents opinions but they 100% said it and it was less pleasant then how i wrote it. To say they were upset was an understatement.

The player is going to be a senior next year and is a "leader" around the team so it's not something i think they would say flippantly

quite sad if true...players deserved better

noonan05, I have no doubt that the parents said it so I don't doubt you heard it. However as a parent of someone who played sports, believe me when I say that there are some parents who just don't want to admit the fact that their kid and the team they play on could ever lose. When my kid's team lost to a better team or they had an off night, I'd be the first to admit it. Other parents would want to blame the coach if their kid didn't play well or we lost because we were outplayed.
