Charlie should've taken the reigns over during the bye week and figured out how he would handle play calling with game management and other head coaching duties. Furthermore, if true, he would've essentially wasted a game to give Vance one more chance...one more than he deserved.Rumor is Strong called the defense in the second half, there could be something to this. Even if the playcalling changed for the 2nd half, that doesn't explain the lack of fundamentals, which seemed more prevalent in the first half. Having a different playcaller doesn't really affect the tackling and bad angles, unless it's just a mental thing for the players. I'd have to go back and re-watch the game to really compare the two halves scheme-wise, but I don't currently have enough alcohol to do that. What is the legitimacy of this rumor? He does. One of the first to run a 4-2-5.Doesn't Gary Patterson call the defensive plays for TCU?
If he was truly reactionary, this would have happened after Cal (I mean at 2015 seasons end). His loyalty is one of his biggest flaws!

Couldn't help but notice your Charles O quote on the bottom of your post. Might want to change that " we play defense at Texas " theme.i noticed that, and Vance was noticeably annoyed
I had just noticed that and was about to say the same. You beat me to it sir!ðŸ˜Couldn't help but notice your Charles O quote on the bottom of your post. Might want to change that " we play defense at Texas " theme.
That aligns pretty closely with what I saw. I had to miss the 2nd half of the game, so I just finished watching it. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but the defense looked improved (still not great, but better). I saw very few egregious missed tackles, the issue with penalties was obviously better (2 penalties for 10 yards?!? And yes, I know there should've been a PI on Haines's interception), and special teams looked much improved. The issues that plagued us against OU (guys getting beat in coverage) seemed different than the issues that plagued us against Cal and Okie Lite (penalties, lack of focus, completely blown coverage assignments, and a ton of missed tackles). Feels weird to say this after a loss to drop us to 2-3, but I'm actually feeling *somewhat* encouraged regarding the defense.Re watching OU game. I was at the game & wanted to see what happened. Our defense forced 4 turnovers. Good. Offense was sluggish in the first half. It happens. Our TD right after halftime was a thing of beauty. Hill is finally playing again, but he bit on Westbrooks move on OU's answering TD leaving Haines to clean up the mess. Haines just isn't fast enough. He was in position, but just doesn't have the speed.
Another beautiful pass to Leonard. The great hit by Elliott on Mixon. Bet Joe was glad DeShon wasn't in that bar.
I've really wanted to see this part again. The 'why did we get burned on those passes'. Next one is coming pretty soon, I think. Ok, a reckon Hagar missed an open field tackle, but wasn't out of position. Ok, the pass, Kris Boyd misplayed that, pulls up, looks back, relies on his speed, and blows it.
I don't see that as blown coverage so much as young players taking their licks. That happens, and I think it's a case of less experienced players getting schooled. Boyd hardly played at corner last year, and Hill has played mainly backup this year. On another TD pass, Davis got beat.
Fire away, fellows. I know I just stepped in where angels fear to tread, but I listened to a 20 something fool of a Texas fan talk drivel during during the entire game at the game. It was obvious he never played football past Junior High School, so I had to come home & watch the game.
Hook 'em!
We gave up 672 yards; the fifth highest total in Texas football history. That aligns pretty closely with what I saw. I had to miss the 2nd half of the game, so I just finished watching it.
