Quick Takes by Roach: Oklahoma State

Really?  How many in your lifetime had less than four years?

In my lifetime, Royal to Strong...Nobody has had less than 4 years.

McWilliams 87-91

7-5, 4-7, 5-6, 10-2, 5-6 in five seasons.
How dare you bring facts and statistics into this conversation?

Alright.... I guess two losing seasons isn't unprecedented in my football fandom for Texas.  Let's go Strong.... get that record to .500!  No Texas coach has ever survived more than two consecutive losing seasons in my lifetime!

I think the pressure ratchets up on charlie with Herman possibly up for several big jobs
I am in Houston so get all their local coverage + all their games

One trait I have noticed about Herman generally is that he has that entire program moving lockstep in the same direction.  All facets of the team are on the same page.  I concede I am somewhat envious they have that.

I dont remember ever saying or even thinking that with regard to UH vis-a-vis Texas before

...and this team wont have a losing season, so? That may or may not still ring true.

Looking back at the UT coaching changes, I remember urgency in getting the new guy. Fred Akers was brought in in sort of a panic in the late 70's He had been a hot Coordinator at Texas under Royal. He went to Wyoming and was hugely successful. He was THE hot young coach. Texas moved quickly on him...possibly even ushering out Royal maybe before he was ready to go.Certainly, Akers was not Royal's choice to succeed him ( he wanted Mike Cambell) Akers could flat out coach and really made Earl into the star he was by junking the wishbone and putting in the I formation...Things looked great...Texas got into a Natty and only lost because of an ill advised attempt to field a punt very late in the game. But Akers was an arrogant man the alienated every HS coach in the state. That was getting to be the end of him, but maybe not as soon as it happened. Again there was a hot young coach that had Texas coaching roots that was having great success and we again gobbled him up. TT has never forgiven us, but we took David McWilliams from them...that simply did not work out,

Now there is the hottest of hot young coaches with Texas roots...will history repeat itself?...the next 2 weeks will tell us alot.
