Staff Predictions on the Texas Season

I will say this if the Longhorns pull the upset and beat ND this Sunday night then the Cal game for me is a must win. They cannot go out there and lose after upsetting ND it would just create more confusion about the progress of this team .

8 wins, and that would be a really good season this year.  I think 7 is as likely as 9, but neither would surprise me.  6 or 10 would surprise me.

I can truly see that game going either way. Their defense is going to bad again and I'm willing to bet Texas doesn't give up as much this time around.

I am betting Swoopes starts.  Strong is loyal to seniors (see J. Gray over D Foreman and Warren last year) even though it was obvious Warren and Foreman were better backs for the O-Line we had.  

Maybe Swoopes is different QB under Gilbert than that asshat Watson but I doubt it.  Practices well but performs badly is my guess.  Either way after 2 years of subpar QB play, I say throw the young freshman to the ND wolves.

I have high hopes for Texas this year but very wary of the preseason media kool-aid that I was drunk on last preseason.

It's all about the QB. I'm not sure how good of a QB we have in either Swoopes or Beuchele. Decent play by the QB nets us 7 wins. Good play will get us to 8.

As for the defense, our D-Line is really thin as far as experience goes. A bunch of talented freshmen is great but I'll take a 21-22 year old over an 18 year old when it comes to physical play. 3 years makes a huge difference. I don't think the talent of the freshmen can compensate for being out physicalled on the line. We may have trouble against the run, again. A sluggish offense will expose this weakness.

With that said, I'll predict 9 wins this year--8 for the season and +1 for the bowl.
