The starter may be the one who the offensive coaches think matches up best against the Irish. Remember that the spread offense is just as much about running the ball as passing. Ty may start if they think they can run on ND, and probably the frosh if they think they have a better chance passing. Therefore, it probably comes down to the overall offensive game plan and which QB is the best match for that plan. That's why Charlie won't announce the starting QB because it would tip off the Irish on their game plan. Make them split practice time preparing for both.

BTW, it's not necessarily fair to judge Ty by past performances which have been mixed because of the offensive coaching, OL, etc. He has new coaches, a new offense, and a better OL. There are endless examples of how any of those can make a huge difference. Give the kid a chance to utilize his experience if he's doing well in practice and is a good match-up to ND.

Also, in a high visibility game, starting the more experienced QB makes a lot of sense. You can always bring in the frosh, if necessary, after the team settles in and you see what the ND defense is doing.

 
At the end of the day, the offensive line's performance will probably make more of a difference than which QB starts.

Yeah excuse me if I don't trust the coach who has had to get rid of just about his entire coaching staff and who is 11-14. I won't even mention the all time blowouts or us kicking off to begin a game and again after halftime.  LOL

Charlie needs to get the fan base behind his leadership. To do that, he needs to give the fans a reason to believe. I think the majority of the fans have passed judgement on Swoopes as QB.

If Charlie goes with Swoopes and the team gets blown out against ND, he is done at Texas.

That's baloney. Most fans I believe are going to look at who played the most and how they do. Charlie started Swoopes last year against ND and didn't make a bit of difference. Both Swoopes and Heard couldn't do a thing.

Let it be said again. Charlie has said that Buechele will play in the ND game!
