Sounds like Baylor will remove recruiting ban, but not release NLI immediately unless school they choose is not in B12.

Removal of the recruiting ban – This means the recruiting ban is lifted, but the NLI penalty is still in effect if you do not fulfill the NLI.

NLI releases cannot be school-specific, like permission to contact. So you cannot be released to one school but not another. Because of this, many schools will first remove the recruiting ban, but may not grant a complete release until the school knows where an athlete plans to transfer.

Just a way for Baylor to drag feet to keep the signees away from B12. Otherwise, the signees have to appeal to NCAA which could take 4 to 8 weeks longer.

This will really help SOE, UH, SMU, LSU, and Tulsa recruit these 2016 Baylor signees because they get released sooner and can enroll ASAP since not in B12.

Not saying the kids should do this... But as a last resort, couldn't they technically just say, "Hey Coach, oh yea, i'm going to school X" then once they get released say, "F*** you, i'm going where I want"? Once they're released, even if they told the coaches one thing, the coaches actually can't do anything at that point, right?

The other thing is that strategy won't impact the Duvernays either IMO. Devin Duvernay is good to go because of Baylor's gaffe. Devin can just enroll while the school saves a spot for his brother and while his brother goes through the NLI process. I guess there's a risk that Donovan won't be released, but it's pretty much assumed that the NCAA will let these kids out of their NLI.

Once they're released, even if they told the coaches one thing, the coaches actually can't do anything at that point, right?

Good point. Why would these recruits even share with Baylor where they want to attend? 

Seems to me they would just ask for a release.

They can't grant conditional releases in this situation in regards to the 2016 kids. Dickson is the only one that they can place conditions on since he already enrolled.

It is all or nothing for the 2016 kids and if Baylor doesn't grant it, the NCAA probably will unless they want their previous NLI under a microscope in court.

That's just downright stupid; right up there with not being able to sub in for you injured player during the NCAA Golf Championship.

I hate to point it out, but the irony is too rich to ignore. Baylor is in trouble for allowing student athletes to force their will on other students. Now, Baylor forces its will on unwilling student athletes. And this is supposed to be "fixed."

my bet is we are watching the death of the NLI.

any smart high school is going to watch this and then tell his players to never, ever sign one of those things.  players will shake hands with the coaches and tell them if they don't do something stupid, they'll show up at the appointed time and start their classes and their training.

way to go baylor.  way to go ncaa.  and way to go NLI folks.

If I ever have a kid good enough to play college sports they won't be signing a NLI if they are still around.
