A quick note: I probably won't be doing PBP tonight. I have a meeting to go to that won't be done before the game starts. Someone here will probably pull the relief duty.

Also, here's the rotation for Texas:

Game time 6 PM CT

Catch y'all on the flip side.

Ouch. Kingham takes one off the knee on a comebacker. That had to hurt.

The good news is that the ricochet went right to Clemens at 1B for the 1-3 putout.

Texas trails 2-0 thru 4 innings.

Kingham out. Malmin in to pitch now.

I'm still at work. I guess I am going to have to put on my rally cap early tonight.

Better turn it inside out and stack several on your melon. Texas sounds like they're really struggling tonight.

That didn't sound good tonight. Horns drop game 1 4-1.

I'll try to get something up tomorrow about tonight's game. Bottom line, Kingham struggled, Texas was not effective at the plate and Cal put runners on base often.

Batting practice is your friend.
1. You have to recruit big time hitter. ( Why one would want to come here?)

2. Not scoring runs has been the theme of this team for several years.

3. Augie is a great coach but his approach to offense baffles me.

4. This team has the arms to win a lot games. But again it will come down to who is able to get a timely hit or who will be allowed to get a timely hit. Hitting takes confidence and that is hard to get when most of the time you come up and all you're asked to do is bunt people over.

Like the Stanford series, a split here would be a very good result. These are not easy nonconference match ups.

Stanford is playing a 4 game series with #2 Vandy this weekend. They played 2 yesterday, and Stanford split. Stanford had a chance to win both if not for a few hitting mistakes in the 2nd game.

RE #4 Didn't watch the game last night, but up until that point, the number of bunts this season has been significantly less. We have seen more of the squeeze attempts and hit-and-runs than in past years. Also, Augie has been using the slash-type play where the hitter shows bunt to pull 3B in then pulls back and swings away. Hasn't worked yet but it's been utilized. If you pay close attention you'll see that Augie has changed the way he approaches the offense. It may not be the changes you want to see, or not as drastic as you'd like, but it's there.

The hitting part is on the kids.

BTW, Cal is #12 in the country. They're not Sisters of the Poor.

Just for the record, I hate slash. He had either Cantu or Barrera, I can't remember which, and hated it. But I love hit and run especially against people that are around the plate. Meaning I like it a ton more against Stanford and Cal than I do against Prairie View.

All that said, the old dog is using more tricks early this year, and that is a good thing.
