I find that people who personally dislike him have trouble admitting he is the one who made the two hires who everyone seems to love, as of this moment in time at least.

Hires, thumbs up! All about money, to hell with him. The Swoosh would be gone if Steve was still in house. The hires are not my issue with Steve and in a short amount of time, a good man for the job has undone some of his missteps. Plus side, he cut off BMD's...

Let's say I am more concerned about our current AD in that regard

If Patterson hadn't been fired, Charlie Strong would be closing out recruiting as head coach for Miami. There wasn't any way Charlie was going to try to hire an OC with Texas never having gotten Wickline's suit with OSU settled. No OC, no recruiting class.

And that is only one of the reasons Strong would have had no option other than to admit working with Patterson wasn't a winning strategy.

If Patterson was such a great AD and Texas screwed over a coach hiring genius, he would be getting some consideration from other programs. He isn't because he is a nightmare as an AD.

We were incredibly lucky he wasn't allowed to stay longer and do even more damage.
