FWIW...  Listening to TBL this morning. Chip said that after watching film, Gilbert really liked Heard and said he can coach him up.

As a huge fan of Heard, me like!

I hope he is right, Charlies job might be depending on it.  Seems foolish to rely on either Swoopes or Heard after both ended the season in a subpar fashion.

Swoopes was a disaster at the end of 2014 and Heard hasnt looked good either the end of this year.  Heard was hesitating to throw vs WV and carried on throughout the rest of the year.  Swoopes was the better QB vs Baylor.

I am not ready to give up on Heard but Gilbert's system favors a strong arm.  Gilbert said during his PC that arm strength isnt everything but its up there.  In short we have to two running QB's which is odd considering we want an improved passing game.

Chip also explained that Gilbert's system is much more simplistic than Norvel's.

Norvel's pass game has 3&4 reads across the entire field

Gilbert's zone read/pass option is only 2 reads. The play is called to only 1 side of the field. The 1st read is to the outside. if it's not open, then the 2nd read is the inside slant. If thats not open then just hand the ball to the tail back.

Chip further explained this style of play really benefits a QB like Heard because his legs are a 4th option.

Sounds great but...only time will tell.

Heard wasn't 100% either, he was still dealing with the effects of the concussion he got earlier. No, I'm not a doctor but I have seen the effects on way too many younger people and it's not good.

That is true but also reaffirms why they should get an insurance policy with an experienced JUCO.  Look what happened to Ash.

I fear we are back to making the same mistakes of the last couple of years.  Gilberts system requires a QB that can process reads very fast.

Both Heard and Swoopes have shown reluctance to throw the ball so I am surprised we didnt offer Riley.
I'm telling you, don't underestimate how f--upped our Qb coaching and play calling was this year.

It wasnt just the play calling it was the Watson based shit offense.  Regardless, that doesnt change Heards arm strength.  Maybe Gilbert can infuse Heard with easier offensive reads and quicker reaction.  Maybe....

But to say its fine lets go with Heard and Swoopes when you could bring in an experience JUCO as insurance seems silly.  Especially considering Heards concussion.

and BTW

All I heard last year was nothing short of Watson being a miracle worker with Swoopes.  What was the Diggs comment last year mid season regarding Watson.  "Watson...hes miracle worker" when asked how Swoopes was progressing.
