Charlie Strong relieves Shawn Watson of play-calling duties

For the record, I don't think Norvell will be the OC next season either. Unless Texas has a miraculous turn around and wins the Big 12 or something.

I think this i a great move and one that had to be made. It might have been the hardest decision Strong has had to make as a HC but give him credit, he made it. As far as Wick's lawsuit goes, I don't think this will have any bearing on it at all. The whole suite revolves around his initial job duties and not future duties.

Now I'm glad I bought cheep tickets to the Rice game.

Hook'em

surely Norvell can produce some touchdowns the only 1 in last 3 games was Armanti Foreman making the play against tcu and going 74 yards. other than Watson`s fondness for 3 & outs his offense was inconsistent with no actual proof we were trying to score. i have to think Watson will be out as QB coach in january and Wickline may not be far behind unless the actual shift to the spread helps oline block better because clearly no one benefitted from the offense Watson ran

Oklahoma under Norvell was very good at the screen game. Norvell as Co-OC and WR coach had a big hand in that. I'm hoping for improvement there. Get the ball to Daje and Foreman in space and let them do work.

I checked Norvell's record as an OC and it's mixed. He was Nebraska's OC for three years under Bill Callahan which shows he did a good job. The offense was listed as the West Coast offense. His last year as OC at Nebraska, he was the boss of Shawn Watson who was a position coach.

He made the mistake of going to UCLA as OC for Karl Dorrell for one season where he didn't do well. Again the offense was listed as the West Coast offense.

Most of know on how he did at OU, the offense was good until Blake Bell and Trevor Knight were the QBs. Norvell was Co-OC during the OU-UT when they beat us 55-17. The offense was listed as No huddle.

Norvell has never been OC in an offense labeled as the spread. My concern is how much he knows and can coach the spread which will help Jerrod Heard. We were told we have the spread during the off season which wasn't true.

The spread/pistol at Oklahoma was part of his design. They were certainly never west coast while he was there. He was brought in because of his knowledge of the system. He seems more adaptable than Watson also

Higs says he spoke with Buechele and says he is good with things.

Also that he will try for this weekend's game, so he can speak with Strong in person.

At this point in time there was really no other option. To go with an in-season change it had to be someone on staff and Norvell is the most qualified. I've seen a lot of people asking for Traylor, but come on the guy was coaching 4A Texas ball last year. To me this would indicate the search is on in the offseason unless Norvell performs a true miracle turn around and blows the doors off this thing. Right now, Norvell is simply plugging the leak in the ship as it limps back to harbor. If the change had been made in the offseason it would have been a better situation but at least Charlie pulled the trigger quickly.

It had to be done.

I suspect that it will be vanilla this week against Rice but if Texas expects to beat Cal, they are going to have to fine some way to score.

If you think Malik Zaire tore up the Longhorns, wait till you meet Jared Goff. I expect that kid to go pro after this season. He is a stud.

Is this a Patterson problem? For not telling Strong what to do/Who to hire? Is this Strong's fault trying to fit a sqaure peg in a round hole.

I am just glad CS pulled the trigger, I was starting to wonder why he hadn't and was starting to worry about Charlie's future being hitched to Watson. I give him credit for doing it. I have a renewed hope but staying cautious for now. it has to be somewhat difficult to start making changes during the season. it can't be any worse than the last 3 games. LOL at least I will be able to sleep better tonight with some peace. Thank you Charlie
