CS Meeting With Coaches Today (Personnel Changes)

I didnt mean to be too harsh. He will get better at it.

Not so sure about the rest of Bedford's zone
He for sure didn't drop far enough and and Haines didn't come up close enough leaving a really wide bracket in the coverage. But as a force around the line I liked the way they used him. Football is changing in the way they deploy their athletes. The uber athletic linebackers are starting to play in the middle.

Rice will be coming into this game knowing this is their best shot in awhile

Since 1965, we are 40-2 vs. Rice.

They last won in 1994 (a result completely on Machovic).

Rice did go 8-5 last season with a bowl win over Fresno St.

This is Bailiff's 9th season there. He has won 10-games twice, has 3 bowl wins and they have made a bowl the last 3 seasons.

Last week, they ran for 401 (7.4 ypc).

The good news is there DL from last season is gone.
Brings to mind a thought I had today. What result against Rice makes anyone feel good? I mean does a 63-0 win make everyone feel the team is back on track or do they look at it at just being Rice.

the depth chart stays the same after saturday performance and no change in play caller this season will be wasted. Texas will not compete with good teams with Watson/ Wickline OC fiasco. I don`t think Strong fires Watson but new play caller is a must. if Charlie stakes his Texas career to Watson then Strong will have short tenure

Well first off. Heard needs to start. If he starts and they blowout rice then i'll feel much better about the team going into the Cal game.

Boy did you open up a can of worms...this almost deserves it's own thread, but here goes.

A win is essential, after all, teams are judged by wins and losses and not necessarily on how they win. a 10 win season is still a 10 win season even if 4 of the wins are a result of a last minute field goal.

  • I need to see much better secondary ie. safety play.
  • Continued development of the oline
  • Based on Strong's press conference, the play calling and execution of an offense that embodies his vision of a "spread" offense.
In my pea brain if I see these things it will make me feel better about the direction of the team.

I dont think any result against Rice will make fans feel we are "back on track."

Going to take more than that.

For me, yes we had better worry about simply winning the game, not running up the score.

Over the last 3 games, we are averaging 6.6 points, and have been outscored 117-20.

Then there are the 3-and-outs -- 78 times from the start of last season  -- 33% of all possessions.

We have the worst offense among FBS schools.

Everyone wants a shot at us right now.

63-0 means that we can actually physically play football... Nothing more nothing less. It doesn't mean we are good. It doesn't spark any positivity in me at all.

However, a loss to them would be devastating for the program. I know there are plenty out there saying not to panic... But there is only so long that concept lasts... There is a time to panic and losing to Rice would be that time.

Loss to Rice is unlikely but possible.  I guess it really depends on whether or not we are going to try more 50+ yarders on 3rd down and 3.

I expect this will be Swoopes start and he will beat up on the Owls, hoping to instill some hope in the longhorn faithful for the Watson Protoge.

If Heard starts I will be not shocked.  But I doubt it.  Watson loves to throw deep every other down.  That is Swoopes.

Cal will be the game to watch for.

Oh and Heard has to play... There is no doubt about that. Heard needs to be GIVEN this game to succeed or fail.

Well the thing with Watson's game plan is that it's not a game plan so you never know what he'll do... Sooo surprise!!! Who knows what nonsense comes next!?

As much as I respect Charlie Strong and hope he does well, if he does not see a desperate need for some major changes, then maybe he is not the man for the job.  Although I have not seen much about Heard's health, he appeared hurt on his one series.  If anyone knows more about Heard, please lets us know.

Again, I truly do want to see Strong success and Texas return to its former status.

Apparently he did practice, just not with the 1st team. So he must be alright.

We all do.  That is probably the most frustrating part of all.  I wonder what dirt Watson has on Strong.  There has to be something.

Mike Leach might be available next year if Wazzu gets fed up and pays his buyout LOL.

There were some rumors that he interviewed for the Texas OC job back then if I remember correctly.

We didnt play Heard last year.

Reason/Excuse:

Redshirt, understandable but still painful

We dont start Heard vs Notre Dame, or even play him that much.

Reason/Excuse:

Dont want to throw him to wolves on a big stage vs a big team?  Again understandable.

If we dont start Heard vs Rice

Reason/Excuse:  Who knows?

We can always find an excuse to not play this kid.  And always find a lame excuse to play Swoopes.  Swoopes isnt the future.  Give Heard a chance and more than 2 series FFS.  At this point idgaf about arm strength, the cant block long enough for the routes to develop.
