Dave Campbell's Texas Football is using their summer edition to (unsuccessfully) lobby for the return of Texas vs A&M. "The Lone Star State wants, needs, and deserves Aggies vs Longhorns"

Dug this gem up from Barking Carnival, and it is a pretty good take on how the situation went down.  ;)

Why Texas Won't Play AMBy srr50 on Oct 19, 2011, 11:54p

Members of the Big 12 gathered around the conference table for the monthly board meeting. As everyone settled in, Aggy – late as usual – walked through the door, and refused to take a seat.

"I’m done with this bunch," he grimly stated. "I know we signed a new cooperative contract, but I don’t intend to put up the disrespect any longer."

He let a small smile creep over his face and said, "Not only am I leaving, but I’m heading cross town to join the SEC --they appreciate me for who I am. They are bigger, richer, and they will treat me like an equal partner!"

He whirled, pointed a finger at Texas and through clenched teeth, seethed, "It’s all you’re fault! You are a bully, a liar and a cheat. You have kept me down long enough! You are the reason I haven’t won Salesman of the Year since Hitler invaded Poland!"

OU leaned over to UT and whispered, "WTF?"

UT, responded, "quiet, he’s on a roll."

Aggy's voice raised a couple of octaves as he continued, "You do nothing but ridicule my family and their traditions. You have to be in complete control from the burnt orange towels in the bathroom to the sliding scale sales commissions!"

Aggy paused, and let out a laugh.

"You know what else? I’m coming back here with my friends, LSU, Alabama, Georgia and Florida and we are going to recruit some of your best clients away from all of you!!! It won’t be long until I have my rightful place as one of the best among the best, and I will revel in rubbing your face in it!

With a dramatic flourish, Aggy turned on his heels and strode for the door.

He stopped and looked back at Texas.

We’re still on for Thanksgiving dinner, right?"

I'll say it. I miss the rivalry. And yes, Texas-Texas a&m have been rivals since the 1800s. There was more emotion in Kyle field Nov 2011 than in any of the subsequent DKR T/Giving snooze feats since combined. And I'll throw this year's TG in as well.

I know I know...they left, F@#K the sheep jumpers, never again...

I'm over it. College football is rivalries. I miss the ones we've lost.

76-37-5.

That's not a rivalry, that's a century-long ass-whippin'.

It's a rivalry for the following:

Mixed families

Ags

National Media that doesn't want to pay attention to the record.

Outside of that, we are as much a rivalry with Baylor, Tech, Rice and TCU as we are with the Ags.

The 'rice et al is as big a rival' ignores history. Remind me where BU and tech are mentioned in Texas Fight?

Sure it's lopsided. So what? Was Arkansas a rival back in the day? Look up the numbers on that.

Any Texas list of greatest wins has a number of aggy games. 1940, 63, 77, 83,90,95,2011 off the top of my head. I don't have any memorable Rice wins.

I understand the counter argument for not playing them. But for me beating them, especially in CS was a blast.

I will take Arky over aggy any day - and it's not even close.

In fact, I'm all for leveraging ($$$) ESPN and Fox to having Arky and, yes, LSU joining the Big 12.  I mean the BIG campaign.

And don't say it can't be done, because it can.

Every school is a whore (including us, by-the-way).  They will sell out for the money every time.  I mean EVERY time!  Even a school as filthy rich as Texas.

In addition, the Big 12 would be perceived as a much easier conference to win and recruit in.  Arky remembers this when they were in the SWC.

What does this translate to?  You got it - filthy lucre.

Just because beating a team is fun and enjoyable doesn't make them your rival. Have there been some epic games of the course of history? Certainly. Texas/USC was an epic game and they're not our rival nor are we theirs. Same with Texas/Ohio State.

I'm not saying that beating them isn't fun. I'm saying that just because one team calls the other their rival doesn't make it so for all parties.

This "rivalry" is one sided, it's being perpetrated by the whiny, uninformed media, butt-hurt old army bunch, (that wants so badly to play Texas again because they lost the last game,) and the general public that doesn't know that Texas has been whipping their tails for well over a hundred years.

Is it unfortunate that it shook out this way? Yep.

Is it something that could have been avoided before it got to this point? Yep

Listen, they wanted the divorce. They got it.

They wanted to move into a new neighborhood and play the field over in the sec. They got it.

They got their money. They lied to the conference about sticking around. They broke promises to many.

They got their new "sec sec sec" chant to holler while finishing middle of the pack over in their new neighborhood.

They're finding out that those new neighbors aren't all sweet & sexy, and they all don't "love them to death" like the ags initially thought. Turns out, ags are ags no matter what neighborhood they live in.

Now, they want to come back and be FWBs with the ex, and still want to call the ex the at-fault party for the divorce to anyone who will listen.

Eff that noise. Eff them, the horse they rode in on and damned dog that followed them to town. Enjoy your new mobile home park ags, and stay off our lawn.

When I was at UT, I looked at A&M as an extremely annoying little brother. You know the one, right? He would try to catch you kissing your date. He would also do very embarrassing things at school, and invariably you had to bail him out. Well, he grew up, declared himself independent, and after summer vacation wants to change his mind.

Sorry, son. Remember, you're an adult now. Time to accept the consequences for your actions.

Hook 'em!

how dare he try and sell magazines.
Long thread about it here. Long one on OB and I suspect on other Horn and ag websites. If Boykin was on the cover nobody would be talking about DCTF.

I call that good marketing and smart bidness.

Yep, that's all it's about.

Can't blame DCTF for thinking with their bank accounts. As a protest, I won't be purchasing a copy this year. At $10.99 per it's a rip-off anyway.
