Patterson has left the decision up to Augie for next season. Financially it benefits Augie to stay and coach - if money is a factor.

Then it will come down to two things. 1 – Is it still fun for him?  2 – Will UT benefit from him being there?

I like Augie a lot and think it's time for him to go. But, I hate it when a legend is forced out. It should be up to him and I think Augie is a rational man with integrity. If he thinks he'll stink up the place, he'll go. He won't come back for some record. He'll come back to win the conference and a national title.

Well said, SHA. I concur.

And last year we were back in Omaha...

sigh...

Hook 'em!
true. And we missed the tournament entirely in '12 and 13 and went 0-2 in the regional this year for the first time since Nixon. So, which of those years is the outlier?
There comes a time for every great coach.

Cliff Gustafson was a true Texas legend.  He didn't get all the second chances Augie has received. Cliff was forced out when the wins declined.

Texas baseball's reputation has now been turned into a joke.  Augie had his chance to win #800 and blew it.  He doesn't need any more money.  He needs to do the right thing, retire and enjoy his wine and young babes.

popdaddy,

If I recall correctly, Coach Gus resigned based on circumstances surrounding accusations of paying volunteer assistants for summer camp work. It had very little to do with W/Ls.

Augie was arrest for DUI, and could have been canned, but wasn't....So yes, he has been given more than Cliff was given. That paying the assistant was just an excuse to get rid of Gus. If they had wanted to keep him, they could have found a way. Augie deserves no more than Gus.

I tried to like streets posts, and there was a problem. Don't know what problem.

All, Coach Gus was Texas born, bred the Texas baseball program into one of the top programs in the country.  I guess it just so happens I was a student at UT during the Burt Hooton/James Street era, sat along the 3rd base line ,part of what was called the Wild Bunch at the time.  After graduation in '71, I followed Texas baseball wherever I lived across the country.

Coach Gus is a Texas legend for his accomplishments.  No doubt his "resignation" was a disappointment but Dodds fired him for the win/loss record at the end.

Guito made his legend status in California, he had some good seasons at Texas to enhance his legend, good for him.   Fact is, Guito has failed at maintaining the Texas baseball reputation over several years and needs to go.

Weird. Ass. Post.

this is 1000% correct, and it was payment out of camp revenues to one assistant, not plural.  an assistant coach blew the whistle on him so as not to be implicated in an upcoming audit.
