Steve Patterson's LBB - replacing Rick Barnes

When asked about Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall as a candidate at Texas, one source said Patterson didn't see Marshall as a good fit "personality wise" for Texas. Marshall has a reputation for being blunt and speaking his mind, which can come off the wrong way, at times, the sources said.

The more I think about this, I actually think Patterson is right.

I think Marshall is a better X's and O's guy, but Shaka is a better fit in Austin. I'm not sure if Marshall would have problems in Austin, but I don't think there's a doubt Shaka is a better fit.

I disagree with the "blunt" part, but I think there are several reasons why Shaka would be a better fit in Austin.

Guess it depends on what criteria the AD is prioritizing when deciding on a coach.

Abe Lemons was outspoken and blunt as well.

I wish some of his practices were available on Youtube.  They were about as non-PC as possible.

And very funny.  it was almost like having a comedian as a coach.  And his rosters were as oddball as he.

all over the map. just for s**ts and giggles, everybody knows that since Smart's miracle run to the final 4 in 2011, he hasn't gotten past the first weekend his last 4 tries. isn't that why we ran Rick off?

Marshall has some kind of personal issue that has ruled us out, Wright says "thanks but no thanks" even to a discussion and we haven't had any talks with Smart.

Patterson had no one in mind when he let Barnes go.

well, if he had a guy in mind looks like he didn't close the deal for whatever reason.
Post this again once Smart has turned the job down. Until then it looks like Patterson has made a smart decision. Patterson just needs to learn how to fire an employee, instead of the old you can keep your job if you fire your assistants deal.

according to Seth Davis we've also had contact with jay wright and tone bennet. Assuming marshall and smart have also been contacted it doesn't appear Steve has had his man all along.
