Look at Baylors OOC schedule for the next 8 years.  They are an embarrassment to the Big 12 and a black eye on the conferences reputation.

What does a USC, Alabama, or (hell's bells) even A&M have to gain by playing and losing to BU?

UT ain't gonna schedule Wake Forest, Northwestern, or Vanderbilt anytime soon either. Just sayin'

TCU manages to get a BIG team scheduled. They don't have to line up the big boys but finding a matchup with a mid-lower tier team from a power conference is certainly attainable and much more attractive than the current lineup.  Sorry, no excuse for their limp OOC schedule

Baylor would have to go into Bankruptcy to pay for that new football stadium they just built. Oh I guess they could get the money from all those rich donors. :huh: How can the Big 12 stand by and let that happen that will really hurt there bowl placement. Schools that schedule schools like UT are looking for the big payday.  Baylor doesn't guarantee a big payday, so there is little interest in scheduling them.

It's all about money and the W/L possibilities are only of interest to the coaches.  And they don't make the schedules.

I am pretty sure that the teams play no one without the explicit approval of Saban or Myers or name the big time coach. Those teams fill the stadium no matter who is on the schedule. and bring in th TVrevenue foo.

Also, Briles is simply following the exact formula that KState and Snyder did for 20 years. Snyder is highly revered here and everywhere, as he should be.

Vanderbilt and to a lesser extent, Northwestern don't have to schedule top notch OOC opponents because their in conference schedule is sufficiently difficult to make their overall schedule respectable.  Baylor doesn't have that luxury in the Big 12 - at least when it comes to the PR battle - as evidenced in the playoff situation last year.

My thoughts exactly...Baylor beat Texas 4 of the last 5 played...and Texas barely won in 2012 (like 56-50).

I look at Baylor's comparatively weak OOC from this POV.

1. To LHornjack's point, it appears that Briles and BU's AD, McCaw, are emulating K-State's strategy which allows them the best chance for an undefeated season, winning record, additional home games, and greatest exposure in TX. BU ain't scheduling home & homes with Liberty, Northwestern St, and Incarnate Word. 
2. Traditional P5 powers are reluctant to schedule them for obvious reasons
3. BU doesn't perceive any value in trying to schedule games with mid-tier P5 opponents. Why bother? It's doubtful the games are attractive to TV and they probably won't get any recruiting benefit from it. (TCU vs Minnesota was a scintillating match-up :huh: ). Better to play another game in TX.

I don't think BU's schedule cost them a CFP spot last year. It was Ohio State's attractiveness to TV as a historical power with a HUGE alumni and fan base. IMO, BU knows it probably has to go undefeated to secure a spot.

It sucks - mostly for BU - but it is what it is.
