Augie Garrido: "This one was about very good pitching, good defense, and timely hitting. And those are the three main elements of the game and a lot of people contributed to the rallies. Obviously early in the year it almost always starts out this way - there's some number that's on fire and there's some number that's cold as ice. It's always that way. This thing will all even out as it goes along."

Augie Garrido on Josh Sawyer: "He was much better. He had good movement on the fastball - working both sides of the plate, moving it up and down - the way that he can. Also had much better touch on his breaking ball and changeup. So he had three pitches that he was using to keep them off balance. A team like this is gonna hit the fastball because they hit off so many pitching machines and are indoors this time of year. It gets a little more difficult for them to handle off speed stuff and breaking balls."

Augie Garrido on Michael Cantu's debut at First Base: "I think he did fine. He's just a baseball player. He doesn't get rattled by what you ask him to do. As we've seen so far early in the season, he does his best work at the plate with runners in scoring position - with the game on the line. There are certainly a lot of things that can come up, that later on he's gonna have to do but he certainly was comfortable there."

Chad Hollingsworth: "It was nice to be at the Disch, in a pitcher-friendly park. The field at Rice played kinda fast - lots of infield hits and stuff. You haven't seen that this weekend, yet."

On whether he's 100% recovered from surgery: "I'm pretty close. I feel fine. When I get out on the mound, I feel real good. I'm just taking it day-by-day."

On his biggest challenge of post-surgery rehab: "I feel like the velocity wasn't there at first when I came back. But it's definitely getting back up there. That's really the only problem that I encountered. Throwing strikes, I've been able to do and that's what I'll keep doing."

On what pitches were working tonight: "I threw my breaking ball for strikes early, then towards the end when I started struggling, I couldn't throw my breaking ball for strikes. I was just pounding the mitt. Cantu was back there calling a good game, and I was trusting him. He was calling good pitches, so I just threw it to him."

Josh Sawyer: "It was all about location, and throwing with conviction. Skip preaches throwing with conviction on every pitch. Tonight I really worked on that. It was fastball - curveball until the third time into the lineup. Then we started to mix in some changeup."

On his changeup: "It's a pitch that me and Skip are working on. I didn't have it last year. I'm trying to get three pitches - that's a big thing. That's something I'll continue to progress with."

On if he took the Rice loss hard: "Not hard about it - I just tried to forget about it. They hit the ball well and hit it the right spot every time. But I wasn't hard on myself - none of us were. We knew what kind of pitching staff we have and knew we we gonna bounce back."

On if tonight was a better example of his ability: "We want to continue to get better every start. The goal is to get out there and start and just to get better every time."

Brooks Marlow on if he teased Tres Barrera about only hitting it to the wall: "No, no - it's just he [Minnesota's pitcher] made a mistake and left one up and I put one out. It was a fun moment - you know me and Tres in the dugout...it's just fun."

On if he knew it was a homerun off the bat: "I thought it had a chance, but I was like, 'The wind's blowing' so I was running hard. I guess it went over."

On the batting lineup: "It's a lot of fun when you're playing baseball like this. We don't have an easy out in the lineup and that's what makes baseball fun. Just scoring runs every night, you know, like the first night and hitting the ball hard like in these two games. That's what makes baseball fun and makes us loose."

Thank You!

Just doing what I can to show off this team!!

Something that's really helped a guy like Barrera is we finally have protection in the batting order. Pitchers last year weren't worried about walking Barrera so they didn't give him anything good to hit.
