For me, this class is all about Charlie Strong's ability to set a standard, creating a vision that captures its potential, getting recruits to see and believe it... and most importantly, having them believe that they are a part of it.
Being an important part of building something great is very compelling.
It warmed me to later read what Holton Hill and Kris Boyd said during their verbal commitment announcements…
“It is a big development program,†Hill said. “
I feel like they’re building something special and I want to be a part of that. Just knowing what they have in store and from history standpoint. I mean, it’s “DBUâ€, what better place to go if you’re a DB?â€
“You see it is building, and why not be a part of it?†Boyd said.
To me… this definitely reveals what Charlie Strong is selling…and what the 2015 recruits are buying.
The opportunity… and honor to:
- Get a degree from a great university
- Help rebuild Texas football back to its Championship ways. BTW, this also reflects very well on Mack Brown… in that there is recent Texas glory to build on that this recruiting class experienced while growing up… rather than having to build from scratch, or refer back to the DKR days… that are FAR before these boys’ lives.
- Develop their full potential as athletes and men
Personally… I’m not too worried about whether or not a recruit uses "youuse guys"… or "y’all" in his tweets, but rather if the recruits that do commit to this class will truly dedicate themselves to Charlie’s core values… and apply themselves on the field… and in the classroom.
If they do this… then as DavidS41 documented earlier in this thread… Charlie Strong has already proven that he can take boat loads of 3 star with some 4 star recruits and build a winning team.
Or as Bum Phillips put it… "He can take his'n and beat your'n and take your'n and beat his'n."
But, it doesn't hurt to have a bunch of 4-5 stars…
